I've had an email from - supposedly - PayPal saying there's been some unusual activity on my account and it's been blocked until I confirm my details. It's not addressed to me by name. This number is given as a helpline.

Same here.....? I thought PayPal address you by your full name??? Scam I think!

It must be a scam - it comes from costumer (sic) services with an odd e-mail address attached

I've had the same email today.  I'm based in the UK and I'm ignoring it...!!!!

got an email today saying there is strange activity on my paypal account.
This email wants me to log into paypal and follow some steps or ring them on 08003587911

I've used this number to speak directly to paypal who reset my password for me. I had requested the password reset and it worked correctly and took me to the secure paypal website.

Email reads:
Confirm your account to help protect your account, your account will remain limited until you complete the necessary steps.
The security of your PayPal account is a top priority for us and we want to work together to help protect it.
If you need help or have any questions, call us for free on 0800 358 7911 but doesn't connect?

I had the same email even tho  Pay pal banned me for life because I used them to access a web site the were payees on

I too have just received an email that I will copy/paste below. It is addressed;  "Dear ... ( and states my first and surname, as Paypal does)...

Worrying that my correct full name is being used, and that it also contains no clickacle links to mark it as obvious phishing mail. But it lacks the logos that genuine Paypal mail to me carries (and that has likewise been on phishing email masquarading as Paypal mail that I have in the past received). Instead, it appears pretty much plain and unadorned as it has been pasted above.

Hovering with the cursor over the enclosed Paypal email address at the top (I couldn't copy/paste that, and have had to manually type it) results in a popup box containing the Paypal logo and 3 links.for:

If it genuine then it is a letter style from them that I haven't seen before....

I didn't trust to even attempting to login to my account via my PC at that point, do did it via my phone instead (which has the Paypal app installed, and which is linked to my Paypal account).

When I logged in there was nothing flagging or in any other way indicating that there was a security issue or that my account had been limited, and no steps for me to complete to resolve that supposed stated issue.

So.......

Not sure what to make of this!     Not tried logging in to my Paypal account via the PC yet, and will be holding off on doing so until I have more reason that there is a need to.

Hope all of this proves in some way useful to one or more of you...

I attempted to buy an item via Paypal earlier today. However, I was forced by Paypal to login to their site and alter/update my password before I could make the purchase.

So, as with Annika, who has likewise here posted "password update/alter requirement" related comments (on 5th August 2016) regarding this number:  08003587911    I therefore take this to be a genuine Paypal number........because the email to me yesterday purporting to be from Paypal (upon which that number was quoted as a contact) seems very much to have been genuine.
