It's PayPal.

A very rude Scottish sounding lady said she was from PayPal, asked my email address, when I told her she told me it was wrong. I repeated the email address 4 times and she was nasty, told me that she won't argue I need to log onto my account to see why she's calling and hung up. I immedidiately logged into PayPal, saw a negative balance and called them. I told the new lady my email and she confirmed that I have a negative account but she can see payment was sent by myself 6 days ago, it should be cleared by tomorrow. I told her about the rude lady saying my email address was incorrect and she said it will be passed on to management. I don't understand the need for the call at all and neither did the 2nd lady that I spoke to.

Called today by this number and looks to be PayPal as well - I have had a negative balance and I'm guessing based on the comment above that they want details from me.

I checked with Paypal and it is not them. They do not cold call customers.

Scammer pretending to be from Paypal. I spoke directly to Paypal and they confirmed it, now reported to the police

However they Left me 4voice mails on my home phone!
Which only my mother has the number for!
It's an automated call!
Sounding from an Irish guy, leaving his number.  As my voice mail machine answered he must have started to speak so, the beginning message is cut off on all 4 recordings! They sound exactly the same as wash other!

Getting calls from 08005870463 several times a day, every day. Saying they are Paypal.
Unsure if they are or not so have emailed Paypal to ask.
I'm not giving out ANY private info on a phone.

It's a call from Paypal negative balances, if your account is negative more than 7 days they will call you. Some of you also need to look up the definition of what a cold call and its not what this number is trying to do. A cold call is a call from someone that should not have any reason to call and is trying to sell you something. You have an association with Paypal as you have used it and they aren't trying to sell anything if you just listen instead of being rude. I've included the definition of a cold call below to help yall.. And because it is a financial institution BY LAW they must ask you a security question to confirm its the correct person they're speaking with. Imagine if they just took for granted it was you on the phone but actually it was stolen that day, someone has answered the call and hey presto, all they have to do is just say "yes this is I" and that's them in and getting to know details about your account, they can ask for confirmation of card details, bank account details, transactions, your Paypal passcodes and security. etc etc. An outbound security question is to prevent this and with this number all they ask for is for you to confirm your email address, no financials, so even if it were a scam the worst they could do is send you an email.

PayPal. If you call the number back you get through to PayPal.
Irish lady called to say I had a negative balance. She told me the balance amount and if I was able to log into my PayPal account and make a payment, after I confirmed my email address.
I told her it was correct, but the payment had left my bank. She said she'd fix that on the system so they wouldn't call back unless it still wasn't cleared in 7 working days.

How do you account for the posts saying this is a scam call, maybe from a spoofed number?
I think the best advice would be to thank the caller, take down the info they have for you and then call PP on a number you know is good.  Much safer that way.

Nothing wrong with being skeptical about calls from this number. I think PP is much more likely to pelt you with email rather than call.

Actually looking at comments some people.have never had PayPal accounts and getting calls so no that's not true!

It's a scam supposedly PayPal but I don't actually have an account with them so blatent scam and right after Christmas people are likely to be in negative balance so meh

This number is apparently Paypal, however they have been ringing my landline constantly and leaving the same message. The problem is I have never gave them my landline number and my Paypal account is fine.
Paypal apoarently don't cold call so I can only assume this is some sort of scam.

The message informed me that they were unable to connect me to a representative and that I should call a number <<>>>> ....which I did not note. I suspended my PayPal account about a month ago.

Scammers calling daily and refusing to id themselves, constant voicemails being left with automated message asking you to call them, but failing to identify who/what they are.  Only scammers do this.

Block the number immediately.

Anyone asked to confirm security details by anyone who has called them... is asking to have their identity/financial information stolen.  NEVER, I repeat... NEVER give out personal information to anyone who calls you.  Call them back on the number provided on their site and not one they give you.

What you have just suggested is idiotic and leaves people open to fraud.
