hi, i want to know if anyone have successfully stopped getting these msgs. does txting "STOP" actually work? and what about "STOP ALL"? (which one?)  I dont care if i have to spend 3 quid to stop these msgs, just as long as they stop.thanks.

sk8 - I posted on here about a week ago. I was getting messages from "erika" at "hotornot".

I never sent any replys to them (not even to say "stop" or "stop all") and I got 1 message a day for the first 3 days, then the 4th day for some reason i got nothing, then on the 5th day i got one more message and since then (over a week now) i've had nothing else from them. Also I have checked my balance after each message and i never got charged for them. So i would say ignore them and they'll give up.

thomas kelly - when you say you "opened 1st msg" - do you mean you sent them a reply of "yes" to it or did you just read the first message and still got charged anyway ?

I ask because i wasn't charged for any of the texts i received and they gave up in the end (touch wood), but i didn't send any reply's to any of them, so that might be the difference. I'm on an O2 "pay as you go" phone by the way.

slighty off-topic here but another annoying scam i've come across on several dating and chat websites is where they either give you their msn or yahoo email address (or ask you for yours). Then when you go onto yahoo or msn to chat to them, where they give you a link to a dodgy webcam site where (guess what) you have to pay to join !  It's another version of the same scam. You can usually spot these scams because they either give you their email address or phone number in their first message to you (how likely is that ?)or put it in their profile or ask you for your phone number or email address in their first message.

Recently my wallet was stolen and in it was my business card with name and number on it - this is how I assume someone got my number...

OK here's the info I've got from ORANGE (nice people by the way).

If you have already replied (signed up), often texting STOP in reply will cause you to opt out (it should be free).

If you have not sent anything in reply yet, ignore it and do nothing it will "probably" go away, as long as you don't reply with YES or anything else you won't be charged for receiving this "would you like to sign up" type text.

Here is an article you may find useful: http://www1.orange.co.uk/safety/mobile/247.html

Also if you're on ORANGE you can forward the messages on FOR FREE to 7726 so that they can get an idea on the amount and what types of spam their customers are getting - this won't stop it though but it may help.

If you receive these kind of text messages just ignore it and they will go away. Never never answer any of these texts if you dont want to be ripped off your money. OR if you want, you can text in the word STOP but you will have to pay 3 quid to be removed or just call in the toll free number and the call center will remove you from the system. Trust Me I know this company. They are not affiliated in any dating sites..they are just signing up for these sites to get people's mobile number.

It was maybemeet.me!,  a total scam and fraud. i suspected something fishy. They got my number from one of the CUPID media websites. So watchout if you on cupid. do not give out your number to anyone and I suspect the webiste knows and abets the fraud somehow.

nice one for finding that sant - so these scammers get phone numbers off people on various dating sites and then go to " maybemeetme.me " and enter the victims number and name and the dating webite they "meet on", into the
" maybemeetme.me " website and then the victim gets the SMS we've all been getting. Now the only question is how to get the b*****ds back !!! :)
