My parents have this number (and similar numbers) on their itemised bill and being charged.  Does anyone know what these calls relate to and how to stop them?

Cas, that's the number for the customer support line for coopers of stortford.  I guess your parents use that firm.

Unfortunately BT Free Plan calls don't apply to 04844 numbers.

I have been charged for making phone calls to the above number on more than one occasion, all of which have been at times when I have not even been at home to make such a call.

I think this is  a real rip off.  My 84 year old step dad has got dementure and he is on the line to them for ages, every month.
I have told them repeatedly and they do not seem to care.  Strange when it is called customer support?

Send them an e-mail explaining your father's health and tell them that, if they 'phone again, you will report them to the \information Commissioner's Office for harassment.  Remind them that the law says that any any contract/business conducted with a person who is not mentally competent cannot be enforced.

That Number is the customer service number for Coopers of Storford.
I have just found out. It charges 7p/minute plus service providers Charge. Keep well clear. My wife phoned it and was charged £5.51 for a 10minute call.

I called them to place an order, they kept me hanging on to check stock, now I have been billed £7.44 by O2. At least Coopers waived their usual £5 postage fee although they did not explain why at the time so it could have been worse for me.

Just going through some of my deceased Mothers paperwork and found an old phone bill, amongst the itemised billing I found an entry to Multimedia Services listing a call she made duration of 1:08:59 costing £3.02, on checking the Number I find it is listed to Coopers Of Stortford, I acknowledge that the call was made on 31/10/2011, and she died in early 2012, knowing that she would never knowingly have spent that amount on a telephone call I find it quite distressing that Companies like this are capable of ripping off elderly customers.
I certainly won't be spending any of my money with this company and hopefully by listing this here it may highlight to others what type of Company Coopers Of Stortford is and how they operate.

Called Coopers to cancel subscription to their mailed (almost weekly!) catalogue. Was kept on hold for 3 and a half minutes, but thought the call was included in my Virgin mobile plan. Checked my bill, £3.33 for 5 minute 7 second call. Disgusting. Thanks Coopers. I will now "bad-mouth" them to everyone I know.

This thread seems to about the fact that these calls were not "included in your plan". So your phone carrier charged you for them not this company. Maybe you should have read what your plan covered when you got the paperwork with it? This is now nothing more then a business vendetta thread/blog from the UK, a place that seem to love to start these types of threads.

Rang to order an item from Cooper catalogue, not realising the extra charge to them would appear on my phone bill.   Won't be ringing them again!

I phoned this number Coopers twice and haven’t been charged any extra for a quick call to order goods. It’s a line a lot of elderly people use and reading the above I can only assume that he elderly customers have maybe forgotten that they rang Coopers themselves. Coopers have never phoned me about anything. The charges incurred are caused by the customers themselves

I have incurred a charge of £5.51 for a call where Coopers kept me waiting.  Is that deliberate?  I have always trusted Coopers.  NO MORE.

Found this prem number on my elderly mum's invoice twice for same day at 12.10pm & 3.10pm first call cost £11.48 & second one £10.31 total of £21.79.  Mum does have mild dementia but still surprised to see these charges as she rarely calls anyone except family members.  Am in contact with phone provider to block outgoing & incoming premium numbers for the future!
