I used this company in 2009 for an appeal on my shop in Wales. They got me a reduction on my rates here (plus a nice payout from the council) and then another one when my rates went up in 2010. I have since opened another shop in Hereford and again they have managed to get my rates bill reduced for me. I would have no hesitation of recommending them to other business owners faced with ridiculously high bills from the council, money for which we see very little in return. DPS contacted me initially, they were polite and curteous and I was made aware of how much the service costs - after all you are paying for a service. They told me that these appeals don't always go smoothly but I felt it was my choice to do this and I felt from the beginning it was the right choice to challnge the rates, regardless of the outcome. At my second shop I was contacted by various other rates companies from the Manchester area and yes, there are some out there who will blatantly lie to you. DPS is one of the good ones.

Dear Sirs
We write in relation to your recent letter re: 2010 rating appeal (copy attached) and feel compelled to voice my dissatisfaction with the service received by Leighton Clark Associates Ltd.
After reading your recent letter we feel completely misled and let down. After being advised that it was likely we may be eligible for a rate reduction, we consulted yourselves to manage the appeal. After 2 visits from Mark (who we were told was a surveyor, but have since become aware he is not), we are still no further forward. In addition to this, we are also £834 out of pocket. Upon his visits and whilst looking round the premises, Mark repeatedly led us to believe our appeal would be successful, advising us along the way we would receive reductions for stairs and loft space and so on. However according to your letter this is not the case.
We feel completely appalled by the level of misinformation we have received throughout this process and we have had to contact you on several occasions to prise an update out of you and were always advised that the matter was still in negotiations. We feel like we have been conned into paying the £834 as all the information you have provided in your letter was the very information you had at the beginning of this process, before the premises were even assessed. If you had reached this conclusion based on existing information only, why were we not advised before paying for your services?
We have contacted the Valuation Office who have advised that this matter was last dealt with in July, yet it has taken more than 6 weeks for you to advise us of the outcome.
We are completely disgusted with the way the appeal has been handled and wish to exercise our right to complain. We shall consider taking this matter further, after seeking independent advice, however we welcome your comments before we consider this route. We wait to hear from you within the next 5 working days.
and if you can email them to complain sent them this
Yours faithfully

- Justice for victims replies to b holland| 4 repliesUnfortunately you are one of many who have been ripped off by firms from the manchester area.there is a connection between dps consultants who went bust having scammed many clients and leighton clarke.idoubt you will get a reply from them.on behalf of many retailers meetings are to be held with the national media very shortly.the scamming has now totally got of hand.this has to stop and I will do everything in my power to process this
- Kerpow| 3 repliesSlimy surveyors (Leighton Clark) claiming our rates are wrong. Heard this kind of crap before. Steer clear.

- openyoureyes replies to Kerpow| 2 repliesIf it's crap that your rates could be wrong, then why would the VOA waste there own time by giving you the opportunity to appeal? It's common sense that they let you appeal because the VOA are only human and understand that mistakes can be made!
- openyoureyes replies to Justice for victims| 3 repliesScamming has got out of hand? Just because some firms set up to scam people for business rates appeals, doesn't mean that they all do the same. Technically, that is discrimination. Don't tar everyone with the same brush
- Old Mother Riley replies to openyoureyes| 1 replyScamming has got out of hand. Fact, no question mark! "Technically" it is fact based judgement, nothing to do with discrimination. Tarring with the same brush is generally considered being careful with the number of scammers around. After all, this entire site is dedicated to helping people who have received unwanted calls..... from numbers just like this.
- openyoureyes replies to Old Mother RileyAs already stated, just because other people have scammed businesses, doesn't mean that every person who calls is trying to scam you!
- Justice for victims replies to openyoureyesOf course it has got out of hand.all those firms who charge hundreds of pounds up front once an appeal has been accepted are scammers.the reputable firms don't do this.would you like me to give you a list of scamming firms.i can name you eight in existence at this very moment.seven based in manchester and one in Essex.it is one of the biggest cons going on.i feel so sorry for all those people that have been scammed.remember just because an appeal has been accepted means damn all.that is the trap people fall into.
- Justice for victims replies to openyoureyes| 1 replyWith reference to your message of the 19 December it just shows how little you know about the rating system.as long as you give the vo the correct information any appeal will be accepted by them.
- openyoureyes replies to Justice for victimswho said anything about if an appeal gets accepted or not? I'm fully aware of how the process works having been in the sector for a number of years!
- Old Mother RileyYou have a very strange attitude. All that can be reasoned for your car part tale is that you once became aware of being overcharged for one part. No more can be deduced. However, in future a sensible person would learn to be aware that every garage might also try the same trick. It would be naive to think otherwise. Once bitten, twice shy.
- Justice for victims| 2 repliesTell me what is the connection between dps consultants and leighton clarke.
- Nan replies to Justice for victims| 1 replyAccording to the post dated 28.12.12 on Page 1, they are one and the same, as they just changed their name. The curious thing about this particular thread is that the first two posts, both negative, have been marked "Suspect" by site admin. Given that the rate reduction scam has been going on for so long and is so well known, that is odd.
- Justice for victims replies to NanNan as you may be aware dps went into liquidation last year.i have all the documents from the administrator.having read the accounts this is quite ludicrous as during the course of the previous year their income was hundreds of thousands of pounds.this just backs up my claim that many people were scammed.if the two companies are linked i would say this to leighton clarke.the net is closing.
- Chris replies to pennyj1962An exact copy and paste of the only positive post about this company on another site full of people complaining.
