- lornaBEWARE!!! - the 08445560055 number is a SCAM NUMBER according to Barclaycard fraud department. I had one of those calls, I rang and was referred to the customer services line (8119111) but the first call had taken my card number and I became suspicious. I rang Bcard cust servs and spoke to a chap who said that he could see no trace of a call, it was probably about an overdue payment, nothing further needed doing. Still concerned about the number and having found this forum I rang back and asked a 2nd rep to confirm that the number was a valid Bcard number. He gave 2 very similar numbers, but not one with 55 at the end. He said he probably just didn't have a record of it, but he said there WAS a record of a call to me and it was probably their automatic dialler, everything was fine, don't worry. BUT READ ON!!... I still wasn't happy at having no confirmation of the number and I got the fraud number off Bcard's website and rang them. I spoke to a lady who said the tel number was "similar" to Bcard numbers so it was LIKELY to have been Bcard but there was NO record of any call to me. I told her likely was not good enough and kept pressing for confirmation that that actual number was a valid number, and after several conversations with others including the 'Fraud Dept' (which was allegedly the number I had rung!) she came back and said yes, THIS IS A SCAM number, but don't worry, the situation has been controlled by Barclaycard and your account is fine. I had to ask for my Barclaycard to be blocked immediately and reissued with a new number - she said I could if I wanted, it was up to me. I feel daft at having rung the spam number in the first place (instead of checking it against the literature) but even more concerned at the terrible customer service and wrong information from Bcard. I think I'll be researching other cards and moving.
- RonkeHad a message left on my mobile phone twice this week allegedly from Barclay card asking me to call them back on this number. Also had a text from a number 00 saying my Barclay card payment is overdue and if not paid could affect my credit rating. I called the number and when the automated voice asked for my card no, I out the phone down. Called Barclay card and they have no record of sending me the text.
- Caller: Barclay card
- wendyI having been having the same problems as other people. I called Barclaycard this morning and they informed me that it was not a genuine call from Barclaycard and advised me not to give any information and to call Barclaycard customer services (0844 811 9111) if I had further problems.
It might be helpful if anyone reading these links contacts Barclaycard customer services, if they are having these uninvited calls. Under no circumstances give any details before contacting Barclaycard Customer Services. - andieI have just received a call from this number. They asked me my name which I confirmed. The guy stated he was calling from Barclaycard and could I confirm my date of birth. I told him that as HE was calling from Barclaycard I shouldn't have to confirm my date of birth. He instantly hung up!!!!!!! TOTAL SCAM. BEWARE!!!!!

- Lawrence PerryElderly people are too often receiving phone calls from credit card companies trying to sell their products, but are they really who they say they are?
Not too long ago my father was asked to give his credit card details to a person on the phone - he did, but fortunately he mistook a number, and a number of transactions for shares failed on his barclaycard.
Now it would appear that Barclaycard are targetting vulnerable people in order to sell their products.
IF YOU ARE ELDERLY or even younger, DO NOT GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD DETAILS TO ANYONE - under the Data Protection Act you are not obliged to give your details to anyone - so don't.
My father had a phone call from an American accent on Saturday claiming he was representing Barclaycard, and a phone call yesterday and today from 08453007027 - each time I took the call they rang off, and ringing back they said I should ring Barclays on 08445560055.
It all comes down to the fact that anyone can have a UK phone number from anywhere in the world, and that BT has no control on them at all.
A frightfully shocking service!- Caller: Barclaycard
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Buster the BearMy father who has early stage dementia is plagued with calls from these numbers, when I did eventually get to speak to someone (accent was Indian), I was told the number would be removed. I hour later they phones again!
- Caller: claim to be Barclaycard
- Call type: Telemarketer
- M BrettCalled 4-5 times daily, Male and female persons, Seems as this coming from South Africa as I stayed there for 20 years and know the accent very well,
- Caller: Barclaycard
- ScanThis is quite simply a SCAM. Don't return the call don't give them any details at all.
- Mike| 1 replyI've had calls from all the numbers mentioned here. Two of them left voice messages. Both asking for similar information. The worrying thing is that the automated messages were from two totally different systems that made no attempt to sound similar. Perhaps one is genuine and one a scam who knows?
If I ever get a call from a real person (highly unlikely in this day and age) I'll politely tell them that I'll go to a real barclays bank branch and talk to people that I can see rather than take the risk!
I'm so sick of all this. Credit (or rather debt) cards should be made illegal. :-(- Caller: Barclays...apparently
- John The Good replies to MikeBoth numbers seem to be fine. It WAS Barclaycard who called me and it WAS genuine. I checked.
Here's the background.
I had a call at about 6pm yesterday from the 0845 300 7027 number. My son took the call at home and gave them my mobile number. They rang me on it immediately, so that's when I took the call myself.
Now, normally I pay my Barclaycard balance off in full each month but this month I forgot - I've been too busy. The gist of the call was that if I paid now, and over the phone with a debit card or whatever, I would escape the usual charges levied when the balance isn't paid in full. [They wanted at least £6 (I think) but the full amount was £2k+.]
However, a minute or so into the call, my signal failed, cutting the call short. "[***]!" I said. So I tried calling them back on that number (0845 300 7027). But I got the message to ring 0844 556 0055 instead, which I did. I hung up pretty quickly though when I could tell it was some kind of automated system. My guess was that if they really wanted to speak to me then they'd call me back. And they did 15 minutes later. Same chap too.
Anyway, I paid the full outstanding £2k+ balance using my debit card (giving them all its details) and was told they wouldn't whack the charge on for late payment in my case. Ha ha, maybe they like me.
And that was the end of the matter as far as I was concerned. Until today, that is, when I finally had more time to think about it. Bad move. Sudden paranoia gripped me and I ended looking at these pages here. At which point the paranoia turned to panic. I dashed for the phone and called Barclaycard direct (0844 811 9111).
But all was fine. They confirmed that they had received my £2k+ payment yesterday.
Just to be (unnecessarily) extra sure, I called my bank too. They too confirmed the transaction was indeed the exact amount I had agreed in yesterday's call should be paid to Barclaycard (the £2k+ figure) and, just as importantly, that there were no other recent such transactions - this latter point being important too as I didn't want to discover other outgoing payments 'piggy-backing' or whatever on it.
The upshot in this case was that Barclaycard did me a favour. They could have kept their mouths and stung me for a month's unnecessary charges. They didn't. So that was nice.
And we all lived happily ever after. :)
One final caveat, however. My outstanding monthly balance is usually less than half the amount I paid this time, and I have never before received a call like that from Barclaycard in my 40-year dealings with them. Perhaps their intentions are not quite so kind.
Given the country's current worsening economic condition and its unhappy knock-on effects on the private individual, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Barclaycard were even more concerned these days about getting its money back from us punters, and that, as a result, this type call is being employed more widely. This type of call? Well, it could have been their 'starter for 10' with the thumb screws on ANY late payers these days as the credit risk for ALL OF US has generally increased. Maybe. Who knows? I don't.
I hope that helps some of you.
John - General Maximus Decimus MeridiusYou may be surprised to know that these calls are criminal offences !! They are breaches of the Telecommunication Act 1984 (as amended) & the Harassment Act 2000 (as amended) Here is the relevant section ot the TA 1984 (AA)
(cf. Sec. 43. Improper use of public telecommunications system. (1) A person who – (b) sends by those means, for the purpose of causing …needless anxiety to another… persistently makes use for that purpose of a public telecommunication system, shall be guilty of an offence…)
The general public is ignorant of this law,
REPORT THEM TO THE POLICE ! This is quite easy : you will need their adress ( you will probably have had letters from them with their address) -go into a police station. Be POLITE to the police !! -but firm ! You will need a list of times and tel.nos -with mobiles this is easy : IMPORTANT tell them it's traumatising you! Sadly the police will tell you this is a civil matter -it's not - stand your ground and insist a crime report is initiated under breaches of the Telecommunication Act 1984 (as amended) & the Harassment Act 2000 (as amended) & collect the crime report number - take this print out with you
Call the police station you reported it to every few days and ask what progress has been made
&/or Send them a recorded letter stating you do not want them to call and they are legally obliged to remove your telephone number . Invite them to write but but not call
Until someone escalates these criminal offences with the police -- they will continue to flout the law and traumatise people
Here is the basis of a letter you can plagiarise –
Telecommunication act 1984 (as amended)
Any person(s) calling or trying to contact xxxxxxxxxxxxx via the telephone either into his private residence, office or mobile telephone for the purposes of “collecting” monies or investigating his private finances or for any purposes will and have been in de facto breach of the Telecommunication act 1984 (as amended) Section 43. 1 (b), and are committing a prima facie criminal offence attracting a £5000 fine or 6 months imprisonment, on the grounds that it is unnecessary, causes anxiety and is a pointless waste of time.
After this notification any further calls (including his place of work) WILL be reported to the police with an insistence via the duty inspector of the reporting police station that a crime report is initiated against that company and subsequently the individual making the call.( you will need a list of times and tel.nos -with mobiles this is easy ) Sadly the police will tell you this is a civil matter -its not - stand your ground and insist a crime report is initiated - take this print out with you
The purpose of this notification is not only to stop further calls to xxxxxxxxxxxx but also to draw the attention to the institutions who persistently use this method to “bully” people into making payments and hence cause unnecessary anxiety, that they are committing a prima facie criminal offence.
This offence is both de facto and prima facie by the Acts wording (cf. Sec. 43. Improper use of public telecommunications system. (1) A person who – (b) sends by those means, for the purpose of causing …needless anxiety to another… persistently makes use for that purpose of a public telecommunication system, shall be guilty of an offence…)
The general public is ignorant of this law, and how to pursue it.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, his family and commercial colleagues are not!
