This was a follow up call from the North Lanarkshire Council switchboard regarding my recent call to Trading Standards. They left a message; which was helpful...

Just received a call & wanted to check who was calling me at 05.35 in the morning. Woman asked for someone I've never heard of.  Everyone in my house is awake now!

this is fuuny.i live in hatfield.why will lanarkshire council be calling me?

It was north Lanarkshire council cleansing dept for me.

I wouldn't have called following up telephone number leads made while trying to protect members of the public "a nuisance call".
What are we supposed to do? Not follow up telephone number leads during investigations?
Not all leads are accurate or are deliberate red herrings. We can only identify these by following them up.
Do you fully know what Trading Standards are about? Product and services safety and fair trade - protecting consumers.

PS. The number which people see displayed or find by dialling 1471 is a North Lanarkshire Council wide generic number.
If someone does block 01698 274657, then make a complaint about a product or service, or are seeking business advice from NLC Trading Standards, (there aren't very many officers), you'd have to trust to luck that I am not allocated your complaint / request for advice. Because I wouldn't be able to contact you.
We do our best. We are told by auditing agencies that "punch above our weight". But we too are very stretched.

The fact is people hate these premium rate numbers which cost 40p a minute when they try to call back from their mobile only to get some call centre person who knows nothing about who called them and has no way to redirect them to any way to find out.  In the 5 or 10 minutes spend wasting their time, they've also run up a bill of £2-£4 at a minimum for no benefit other than to bung North Lanarkshire Council a kick-back fee for calling the premium rate number - all phone companies give kick-backs on calls to these numbers so it is a nice little earner for NLC while ensuring it wastes everyone's time and money.

Clearer now why people find the number so annoying ?

Have worked for nlc before this is their office number for all depts of the council but it doesnt receive incoming calls

Caller asked for someone who does not live at this address. Refused to say who was calling or how she got my number when asked.
If this was North Lanarkshire Council they should use some of the Council Tax I pay them to train their staff in telecoms regulations!

Rang me asking about my dad (i think) leaving a mobile number to callback of 07534 288118, person had no idea who i was and didnt know ab=nything about the call regaurding my dad

north lanartkshire council. tried calling back but some pre recorded message. im wondering if its got anything to do with a complaint i made to OFGEM regarding scottish power? i do live in NL but dont know why they would be calling me!
