My daughter got a text which apparently carried with it a video. It said "thanks for downloading the video". She didn't respond to the message but still found the credit reduced by about £5. There does not seem to be anything downloaded to the phone. The text included a phone number (08706091794)

I received same as above. I suggest not calling the number to make a complaint as I believe it to be a premium rate number. You can email them at info@web-2-mobile.co.uk but, of course, they will then have your email address as well as a live telephone number. Not sure of an effective way to combat these parasitic b**tards.

I have just been stung by the same fraud.  Received a "service message" which I assumed was from orange.  When I opened it automatically downloaded a video which I did receive.  I then got a text telling me I had been charged £5.00  This can't be legal as there was no warning of the charges prior to download.  Does anyone have any useful advice.

    hi Tom,
of course it's not legal but its allowed because the phone companies make millions from the revenue that this type of unsolicited traffic generates.

you can try and get a refund from the company itself but they are continually changing their name and their registered address and the addresses they use are those of other companies that specialise in registering companies.

    INTERCEDE 2280 LIMITED 01/07/2008
    WEB2MOBILE LTD 09/09/2009

    today they are:
    MOBILE IN MOTION LIMITED
    Company No: 06573609
    Registered Office:
    Incorporated: 22/04/2008
    2ND FLOOR BERKELEY SQUARE HOUSE
    LONDON
    GREATER LONDON W1J 6BD
    W1J 6BD

if it was me I would be insistent and persistent with your phone company.  Its them that have the billing agreement with whichever company (Service Provider /Aggregator) they are sharing your money with not you.  demand to know who this company is, it's often easier to obtain a refund from them.

You all should also report this to the Regulator

I got the same thing, e-mailed them at info@mobile-in-motion.com. very quick to reply and seem friendly enough, I'm waiting for a refund to come (my phone number is now blocked so they can't send it back that way? so it's a cheque), not holding my breath though.

    IMPORTANT INFORMATION
    guys,
it appears european fraudsters may have obtained your phone numbers and now have access to your mobile phone accounts.

if you just ask for refunds and do nothing there is nothing stopping them from targeting you in a months or a years time.
there is nothing stopping them from selling your data to other unscrupulous companies.

here are the people who appear to be involved
    http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t29665.html?

you must report this to the regulator for them to investigate
