    bloody scam
Just had a call from 'PhoneSecure' welsh guy called Daniel - came up Blocked but I said I wasn't happy giving details over the phone so he gave me a number to call back.

Interestingly I'd taken over a relative's account and he had his details but not mine, I think this must be an inside job with an O2 employee passing data out.

I've just had a call from a woman named Amy at the company who claimed she was from this company. Seemed very dodgy so once I'd confirmed my address and everything I told her I'd be checking out the number and call back if it was genuine. Oh and the call showed up as a mobile number and not a withheld which is even more dodgy.

I had a call at 15:15 this afternoon from Wendy at 'Solutions UK Ltd.', a company that is working in conjunction with O2 as their insurance underwriters; she said she could offer me 'massive discounts' on my insurance with O2.

She did not know my phone model, or what level of insurance I was on, only that I need to pay a deductible any time I make a claim (which is true on all consumer insurance plans).

She said for verification of my O2 account, she would need my debit card expiration / valid from dates, as well as the long number across my card.

What she did not know is that I am a police officer, and have seen my fair share of telephone-based fraud. O2, unlike some other telephone operators, do not work with third-party companies. If O2 wish to contact you regarding your account they will contact you themselves.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE OUT DEBIT CARD / CREDIT CARD INFORMATION FROM AN INCOMING CALL. LEGALLY YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO ASK THE CALLER FOR THEIR TELEPHONE NUMBER TO CALL THEM BACK. THIS WILL GIVE YOU A CHANCE TO CHECK WITH O2, OR WHOMEVER ELSE A COMPANY CLAIMS THEY ARE WORKING WITH. THE BALL IS THEN IN YOUR COURT, TO EITHER CALL THEM BACK OR NOT. CHANCES ARE, IF SOMEONE NEEDS YOU TO GIVE THEM INFORMATION REGARDING AN ACCOUNT IN YOUR NAME, THEY DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THAT INFORMATION.

Okay so the funniest thing happens, i get a call from this John Davis guy, and like a fool I give my details believing my insurance would be cut in half and I'll save money. Right after that I have a word with my insurance company who tell me its fraud and I've just been scammed, and I get my card blocked etc etc. Next morning, I get exactly the same call, from the same company and guess what its "john Davis' again who has no recollection of making this sale to me yesterday. And he started with exactly the same statements about how the call is from o2 etc. Arguing how it was impossible I spoke to him a day before and I must be probably 'hungover' lol (Imagine a professional from o2 saying that). I gave him quite a piece of mind, but it was bad to see how he shamelessly kept arguing about my being wrong and generalizing stuff (which didn't make any sense but anyways).

But yeah these people are goood, I'm such a skeptic and yet believed em'.

Purchased a new phone at CPW on O2 network and received a call from a insurance company called "Phone Secure" offering 18 month cover for £79. It seemed a good deal and so gave details for DD payment. I then received a text message saying that the £79 would be taken in the next 24 hours!
I questioned the methods employed by this company only to discover this Website and decided to cancel via the 01792581304 number I was TXT on my phone. This number is either engaged or nobody picks up! Then I called 08708504278 and was told by yet another Welsh lady that the company she worked for was called Phoneguard and she could'nt help me. Strangely 2 minutes later I was called by "Phone Secure" to say they were sorry I'd been missled and that they would cancel my £79 payment immediately.DON'T DEAL WITH THESE FRAUDSTERS.

    scamming scumbags
it's february 2009 and this scam is still going on (got a call today but sussed it was some sort of scam and he hung up on me).  That means that despite this series of complaints made to O2, carphone warehouse etc it's STILL going on more than a year after the first comment.
They obviously have somebody inside who they buy data from.  I think i'll report it to the data protection people... can't believe it - the idiot scammers are calling back as i type!!

last month, i was called by E.BELL UK LTD and asked to renew my phone insurance... i said i would not like to and they were fine with this
however having just got my bank statement through i have found out they took the money anyway.
when i first delt with them they seemed fine, they new all about my contract and new phone... i feel that phones 4u, carphone warehouse, and all the others are partly to blame along with O2 as how else would the company get the personal details??
HOW CAN I GET MY MONEY BACK?

    no name
I actually had a number from a withheld number but with exactly the same story.  He called knowing I had just taken my phone out with O2 and had also got insurance which he said he was activating.  He went on asking for my card details at which point i said I was not happy and would rather pop into a shop.  Like the rest of the people on here he was very understanding however I asked more questions then he slipped up and told me i got my phone from Phones 4 u, I said no I didn't then he told me it was carphone warehouse, again the answer was no and he hung up.

Like the others it was a Welsh man and it was quite busy in the background so I assume there were more people in the room trying to scam others, and I've had calls not so long ago on my vodafone phone, I never answered the phone but got text messages, i typed the number in the internet and sure enough it was a welsh man trying to "help me claim back overdraft charges" this time.
