Any one know about the below ?

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.

    No, it's not real.

There was (back in 2005) a 0906 6611911 number, but ICTIS (the premium rate people) canceled the number, and it has not been in use since December that year.

This email, or one similar to it, does the rounds every year.

Check http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/numberchecker/DisplayServiceDetails.asp and type that 0906 number into it.

PhonePay Plus is the new name for ICTIS

phonepayplus do say number not in use, yet a letter posted through doors in my area from Warwickshire Police seem to contradict this and state the facts as in  HL - 14 Oct 2008. Also know someone caught out by this scam but not sure if number was same as this.

"If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call."

This is simply made up, as it's not technically possible to charge £15 unless the call lasted 10 minutes at £1.50 per minute. The original chain e-mail is a HOAX vaguely based on facts from years ago.

This is a hoax... Although the number WAS used at one point for fraud, there is no premium rate number which instantly charges you £15. At most premium rate numbers are about £3.00 per minute. Some emails even claim you'll be charged £600 for calling that number - a total lie.  Search for PDS Scam on hoaxslayer.com and you'll see this is listed.

Lets get this straight, there was way back in 2005 a 0906 6611911 number, but ICTIS or PhonepayPlus as they are now called (the premium rate people) cancelled the number, and it has not been in use since December that year.

This email, or one similar to it, does the rounds every year! And it also shows how gullible people are once again!

Check http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/Number-Checker/Check-a-Number-Results.aspx and type that 0906 number into it and see what it says fools.

Like I said PhonePay Plus is the new name for ICTIS, a very good and useful resource!

    TO ALL OF YOU DOUBTERS:

There are hundreds of these phone scams around so either take a relevant part of the warning email and Google it or just take the telephone number and Google that.

If you get an unknown number to call, just take the telephone number, no more, and Google it.

This applies to all strange numbers, including short telephone numbers sent by SMS to your portable. Example "I have a photo for you" You call and you are billed anything from 5€ to 10€. The photo is a naked woman. Happened to my young daughter who was unaware of the danger of these scams.

99.9% of these email "warnings" are hoaxes and only serve to fill the Internet with "chain" type emails and this slows down the service.

DO EVERYONE A FAVOUR AND COPY THIS EMAIL BACK TO THE SENDER ONLY OF THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE.

That will not start a chain but warn the sender of the fact that it is a hoax.
