Summary
The PhonepayPlus Executive was contacted on the 23 December 2010 by a Network Operator concerned about the high volume of calls and the content of a service operated by an Information Provider known as Amanda Allen on the premium rate number 09097990821. The service that was provided on this particular number was a sexual entertainment service, providing recorded fantasy ‘Age Play’ stories for consumers to access.
The Executive monitored the service and promotional material for the service, including the websites ‘amandom.com’ and ‘teasingteens18.co.uk’. It established that the ‘Age Play’ service was operating on numerous premium rate telephone numbers. The Executive monitored several of these numbers and was concerned that the recorded fantasy stories consistently contained content that strongly implied the involvement of persons under 18 years of age. It was also concerned that other types of service were being promoted with inadequate or no pricing information and/or contact information.
The service operated on the ‘098’ and ‘0909’ number ranges, which have been designated by Ofcom for sexual entertainment services.
The Executive alleged that the services contravened the PhonepayPlus Code of Practice (11th Edition, Amended April 2008) (‘the Code’) and raised the following potential breaches of the Code:

The Tribunal upheld the breaches raised. The overall revenue generated by the services in breach was found to be within Band 5 (£5,000- £50,000). The Tribunal considered the breaches to be serious, issued a Formal Reprimand and imposed a fine of £20,000.

My mum has this no. on her phone bill a few times 098828736969. My brother lives with her, she is a pensioner. As the no. appears on her bill in the early hours of the morning, we kinda thought it may be my brother but we also found it a bit strange. Is this a thing where people are just being charged randomly or is it people actually calling this no. and being charged stupid amounts of money. I need to know so as i can give my mum some peace of mind, just so as she knows one way or another. Appreciate any answers. Thanks.

it's possible your brother is making the call but-

if the charge is to a fixed line phone it's possible criminals are hacking into your roadside box....are your neighbours also getting billed with the same or similar numbers?

if the charge is to a mobile it's possible the phone has a virus from downloading an App....has the phone got any downloaded Apps for instance?

Hi, thanks for that. I had no idea that hacking road side boxes was possible! It is her landline the calls were apparently made from. She is goin to check with her neighbours to see if they have hd similar no's on their bill. Thanks again, i will post again when we find out what has happened.

hi I have A disability & my mum help's me pay for my bills & she just told me that i have called some tell number's of my home phone I then told her that i havet been useing my home phone at the time's it show on my phone bill as im on one of two things (1) im playing on my xboxs or (2) im on my laptop but she told me that i have as it's not my phone bill so how can some thing show up on my phone bill at the time's I dont use the home phone there is some one ther who's out to get money of us all by saying that we have been useing are home phone's / mobile phone's when we havet so if any one can help me on this it would be nice to here from you my e-mail is irish_sloan@live.co.uk
