In UK, this is only the BT line where you ring up if you have any questions.

I'm surprised the government haven't yet capped these outrageous outbound charges, especially to unsuspecting older people who use this service. My mother was charged £17.32 for a 6 minute 12 second call to 118500 recently for calling this number. If your call to 118500 directory is over 2 minutes long expect a bill of well over £5.00!

BT has been ordered to refund thousands of customers it overcharged in a directory enquiries rip-off.

They were kept hanging on the line, unaware it was costing them £2.39 a minute.

BT, which failed to make its charges clear to callers kept waiting on its 118 500 number, was also fined £225,000 by the premium rate number watchdog PhonepayPlus. It imposed the fine and ordered the refunds after a tribunal ruled BT's failures were 'very serious'.

I am curious to know why you didn't read the post above your own by Old Mother Riley. Had you done so, you would know to whom the number belongs and what to do about charges associated with it. Posting information such as personal account or telephone numbers is not a good idea and I'm not entirely clear what you thought you would achieve by doing this. This forum is for the exchange of information which you can then use as you see fit. It is not an investigative service.

I called 118500 to ask how to get rid of nuisance calls, I was charged £4.04 for a duration of 1 minute 31 seconds. This is a BT number.

It is indeed a BT number.        It is not a number for general enquiries.      It is a Directory Enquiry Number charged at Premium Rates.     See http://www.bt118500.com/   for details for their customers.          Normally people would call the 100 Operator (FREE) for general enquiries, wouldn't they?     Whatever made you think of calling a different number?

WE persistently get charged for 118500 calls for 2 or 3 seconds, sometimes several times a month at exorbitant charges around £5. When speaking to BT the only response is that the call was made on our number. 2 secs? call!
