This afternoon I received a snail-mail letter from Australian Receivables Limited requesting payment of an outstanding Pay Pal account of $517.78. I have no transactions outstanding on my account.

The letter received, although printed in B&W, looks genuine, as does the website listed on the letter www.arlcollect.com.au. However, none of the phone numbers listed will connect (1300 303 849 enquiries, 1300 303 841 telephone payment). THe letter claims that enquiries to the company can be made via privacy@australianreceivables.com.au.

I have reported the letter to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission via their scamwatch website, however they do not guarantee that they can act on every complaint due to the volume of referrals made to them.

Just recieved a call from this Australian Receivables Limited. She said that she had something very serious to speak about. I refused to give her any personal information until she told me what it was all about. Like previous cases she said it was against the privicy act to even let me know what it was about. Then she had the cheek to say you know what it is about and we have sent you a letter. Well guess what, I haven't see any letters from them. So I ended the call with a reference no. and said I may follow it up if I recieve a letter from them. Obviously they do not have the correct details and I don't owe anything to anyone. Avoid these people, it is way too dodgy.

Guys this number is legit! It's ARL (Australian receivables limited) they are a collections agency mainly for Paypal & EBay, someone has either gave them your number & contact details or used your name, I would say tell them your name & let them know you don't have an outstanding account!

So they first rang me up about a $39.20 debt. Which I happily paid back. But even after that they're still hasseling me! I do not owe anything else and I really wish they would stop calling my phone.

I too received a text message today (24th Nov 2015) asking that I call this 1300 number to discuss a personal matter (with  no introduction to who they are).

I sent back a text advising that they had no legitimate claim (i don't owe anyone anything...i checked my credit report recently) and suggested they send me a detailed letter with more information if they did.

The fact that they sent me an obscure text rather than calling me directly about this alleged debt raised the alarm bells.

got a message first which asked me to call this 1300 number regards to a business issue. I called them and after identity questions they told me that I owe some money to Paypal. that was true and I owed eaxt amount to paypal and that was right. so I gave them my debit card number and they collected the money from my card. They said they are ARL and debt collectors and calling on behalf of Paypal. I was suspicious anyway and called Paypal to report this... Well! surprisingly, the call diverted automatically to ARL! So I assume this was not a scam and ARL is really Debt collector for Paypal. Up to you obviously, but if you receive call from them maybe treat them seriously before they put a bad record into your credit report.

Yes there is but the phone number they ask you to call does NOT match the legit companies it’s the same as PayPal they have scammers which look so legit but have very minute differences like . net.au instead of .com.au

Its a fraud and they use the same voice over, we never say select 1in options, select 1 NOW, select 2 NOW, after I select an option, it didn't work and asked for card details straight up. I have a PP account but I also have an app from PP, and they have my email address to send any updates. I use my bank account details never a card. So I'm now emailing PP Australia, not the Philipines where the call is made to get to the bottom of this. Just double check and not assume this is legit. :) Good luck
