- John| 1 replyI got a call and email from Arlcollect.com.au.
I told them that I have no agreement with Optus and that I have no money to pay them.- Caller: http://arlcollect.com.au

- ben| 1 replyI just had the same thing and ended up telling the lady I spoke to stop playing games as she refused to answer any of my questions - like what is that you do? In the end I told her to go f&$k hereself.
The reason they dont give you any information is so that you will confirm all details then they will continue to hassle you for payment. Under law that cant do anything until they are sure they are speaking to the correct person.
Dont admit anything and dont enter into arrangements. Infact if they dont give you information just hangup. - blobbyGot a suspect text message - no details and we have no outstanding debts. Reading all these posts, it seems very dodgy. Why won't they give us any clear information about the debt?

- TomCompanies like ARL, buy bad debts from banks at a fraction of what is owed.
Then they ruthless to recover the full outstanding amount so they can make big profits.
The best way to deal with these rude and threatening phone calls is to not give personal info.
In the event that you have already done this and harassment increases ask for your contract to be sent to you. If they do have your contract, which they never do!! Tell them to take you to court.
If it goes to court, which it never does!!! They can't sue, cause you don't have a contract with them.
That's the reason they don't have your details.- Call type: Debt collector
- Grace replies to JohnMay I know what's happening after that? I have the same issue.
- B. AnonymousDoes anyone know how they get the contact numbers? I have had my Australian mobile number for all of 2 weeks and I have received numerous spam phone calls already, including text messages from this ARL. I know it's not legit; after living in Australia for 2 weeks I definitely don't have outstanding debt (not that I would anyway...). I just want to know how to stop this crap. I just want phone calls and messages from people I know.

- MargaretThe text messages started arriving sometime in early September.
“ARL: We tried calling you but could not get through. Please call 1300 730 151 OR reply CALL ME and we will attempt to call you back today. Quote Ref……………(these changed).”
I deleted the first few messages, but decided to call the number at one point and was given two alternatives: press 1 to speak to ‘your financial advisor’ or 2 to ‘pay a bill/account” (I can’t remember which).
Since I have a PAYG sim, I knew I had no bill/account to pay, so I pressed ‘1’. This was answered by a woman with an Asian accent, and I asked what this was about, and what the name was of the organisation that was sending these text messages. She asked me to identify myself, and as I was sure she knew my number, I thought that should be enough for her to find the answer to the question. I did not want to add to my woes by giving her my name. If she would just give me the name of the firm she represented, I felt sure I could tell if the message was genuine. She was quite unhelpful and kept asking for my details. I hung up.
I kept deleting the messages until I decided it was getting beyond the reasonable, so I started saving them. Below is a list (to date) of those I have received and saved:

On 29th October I rang Optus to make a complaint, and although I was on the line for a very long time, and passed through a number of hands till I finally reached someone (name forgotten) who in the end promised me that her manager would get back to me within 4 hours. That call was started at midday, but as it was a free call, no call duration was kept. I switched my phone off at 6.30pm because I was in a meeting, but no call was recorded as being missed, and I never heard from that manager.
On 30th October I rang again, and this time was taken seriously by the person who responded, and while he said there was nothing Optus could do to help me block the calls, or to check the mobile phone numbers from which they were emanating, he did suggest that we could involve the Federal Police, because it was obviously a scam, because ARL, the alleged senders, who were engaged to follow up on unpaid bills, NEVER sent messages like that from mobile phones, and it was clearly a scam. I said I was very happy to cooperate in any way with the Federal Police on this matter.
The messages kept coming, however, and I did nothing about it.

At this point the message changed, and the threat heightened:
“This is your last chance to stop escalation of a personal business matter. Please call ARL for assistance on 1300 730 151 OR reply CALL ME and we will attempt to call you back today. Quote Ref. DN103041304.”
This was received on 4/2/2015 at 5:54:13pm, from +61407252583. When I didn’t respond to that one, I waited with some interest as to what would come next.
In addition to these messages, I have received numerous ‘no voice’ calls.
These stopped when the messages stopped, but have restarted now, the first two being received on 9/4/2015 at 11.14 am and the second at 8.28pm, followed by a text message, identical to the first ones (above) the next day:

TXT was from 0407254189 - MGJust received a text from these guys as well. Claiming there is an 'urgent matter received from Optus Billing Services Pty Ltd'.
Just called Optus and they ensured I had no outstanding issues and this is quite clearly a scam. If you have any issues or concerns call the company they are claiming has an 'urgent matter' with you. - HVReceived a text message from this people - ARL - after activating a prepaid OPTUS SIM that came with phone with supposedly $10 credit!!! I owe nothing from OPTUS - I am on prepaid, if I dont pay, I dont get to use it- SIMPLE!!!
Ignore the text - it is SPAM related. UNfortunately OPTUS may be involved - how else do this people get through????- Caller: ARL: PLease contact ARL or reply CALL ME

- BluReceived a message from them in the morning asking me to call ARL 1300730151 and to quote a reference number. I did not recognise the name or number so I rang to get them to remove my number from their system. I got through to a guy and after quoting the number and telling him my first name, he realised they had the wrong details. I asked who they were, he said they are a "financing" company. When I asked for more information, he refused. I told him to remove my number, he replied he would. But within 10 minutes I recieved a call from a private number. It was them again. I repeated my request to have my phone number removed since the details did not match. If they weren't so secretive, they wouldn't get such a negative response from people.

- LarnaThis number sent a text msg with arl and a reference number stating we owed money from a optus billing matter. I spoke to optus myself because we have never missed a bill. They told us to disregard the msg. They kept sending msg (mind you sent to a tablet not a mobile phone) I called. They only had amobile number and didn't ask for my name. Scammers!!!! And I made sure I told them. They quickly hung up on me

- MatthewOK, their data is sketchy so they call everyonethey can find with a similar name, until they are sure it is you they are after they are not allowed to tell you anything. Like a DNA test it is in your own interest to call them back later to eliminate yourself. Too bad if your name is Jones....

- SJT10 phone calls from 10 different mobile numbers over the past 2 days! Now they're texting saying they're called ARL "We tried calling you but could not get through.." and gave me a reference to call back and quote. Given what's written here I'd say it's a scam and I'm not giving them anything. They never leave a message, either!
