The call received was actually from a withheld number but we were told to call back immediately on 161, National non-emergency service. The caller introduced himself as Det Sgt Green, claiming that my Visa debit card (no other info, e.g. which bank) was stolen or cloned and £700 was withdrawn from it in Manchester (that's far from my home).
I have logged into the bank and nothing was missing.- Caller: Police?

- K Dob replies to HeimdallMy father in law had exactly the same scam & circumstances today (July 2018).
Changed credit cards with bank just in case but seems it was a scam. - Sharon PHad a phone call from a DC Lennon saying he was from fraud squad and told me £900 had been debited from my account at Argos, Gave me the balance of my account , told me to ring 161 ( serious fraud squad) Told me to withdraw all my money from account as they may debit more money, also told me not to discuss it with any family or friends, Asked me to leave the phone off the hook . Rang the bank , nothing been taken from my account as yet. Police informed.

- MaryI had the same call as others above, but I realised it was a scam at once as the caller used my husband's surname with Mrs in front and not my real surname (they are different). It was also obviously a scam as if your card has been scammed you do not get a call from Visa, but from the issuing bank. I assume that if you call 161 it gets through to them and they then get you to reveal your card details if you are daft enough.

- MickiVisa Fraud Investigation Unit rang me (I now know there is no such unit) rang to say that both my debit and credit cards had been cloned and used in Argos £550, in a Superstore online £3,300, Sainesbuoies £293. The caller gave me his name...James Winston and gave me a Reference No. He said if I wanted verify that the is from the Visa Fraud Investigation Unit I was to ring the Police non urgent number 161. I did this and was almost convinced.
However, luckily I had a sixth sense about the Policeman I spoke to on 161. They (don't know who rang me at least 20 times, saying it was urgent that I dealt with this matter. All very upsetting for me. I can imagine someone else could get caught.- Caller: Visa Fraud Investigation Unit
