- T'edOFFI just received a garbled vm as well. All I could make out was "IRS" and "please call back." I had to get the number off of the caller ID because I couldn't really understand it in the message. I called back and someone, with a very heavy Indian accent, who claimed his name was Allen Cooper with the IRS "informed" me that I am being sued by the IRS and that someone from the Sheriff's office would be at my house to arrest me. I asked, "Why this is this the first time I am hearing of this?" To which he replied, "Ma'am, it is not the IRS's responsibility to inform you when you've filed incorrectly. It is your responsibility to know."
I then asked for court filing information. Which he of course couldn't give. "Ma'am, we are going to file. We do not have that information yet. Please do not interrupt me as I read you your charges." He began to read... Count 1, Violation of Federal Rules and Regulation... Count 2, miscalculation blah blah blah. I asked if he would slow down a bit, that I was taking notes.
He said, "Ma'am, you don't need to write down anything."
"If it's as serious as you say, then I absolutely need to write a few notes down."
"Ma'am, i asked you not to interrupt me while I read you your charges. I'll just send the paperwork with the Sheriff when he comes to your house to arrest you."
After I verbally tore him a new one (I'm quite surprised he didn't hang up on me as I did this), I asked to speak to his supervisor.
"Ma'am, I am the head of the department. I am the supervisor." he said.
"Unless you're the president, you report to someone," I said, "Who do you report to?"
"Rose..." he paused, "...Rose--mary. I'll just send the Sheriff to your house."
I'm beginning to giggle at this point because it's becoming obvious that he wasn't as prepared as he thought for this scam.
"Does Rose--mary have a last name," I asked.
He paused for however long it took him to look up a name on the IRS website.
"Yes, ma'am. Marlow."
"How do you spell that?"
"M-A-aaaa-R..... L-O-W. But ma'am she is not taking calls."
Now it's time to really have some fun...
"Ohhh, Rosie Marlow! I went to school with Rosie in DC, back in 88. Does she still smell like pickled Doritos?"
"I don't know, ma'am."
"What do you mean you don't know. You've never met your boss before? Is the IRS now outsourcing citizen legal matters to Indian?"
"Ma'am?"
"That was my way of saying f**k off, a**h0le."
