Just received call from woman who sounded very ominous with her claims of calling regarding an "investigation".  Didn't put her thru to anyone in the offices...she hung up.  You won't ever get them back on the telephone since their lines are outgoing only!
Can someone tell me, if we are all registered on the Do Not Call list, how are these people allowed to call us?  Would the FCC be the ones to complain to??

Calls came three days in a row at about 3:30 in the afternoon.  First time I didn't answer (I didn't recognize the number).  Second time I answered but there was no one there.  Didn't answer the third time.

The call happened 01.09.09 at 02:24pm.  The caller did not say who he was or where he was calling from.

Here is our converstaion as best as I can recall:

Caller: I need the owner it's in regards to an investigation.
Me:  I will see if he's in, may I tell him who is calling?
    Caller:  "You are being nosey.
Me:  The owner is out can I take a message?
    Caller:  What is your position?
    Me:  Office manger.
Caller:  Maybe you can help me.  Do you have any overdue invoices?*

*he didn't say overdue invoices but it was something along those lines.

    Me:  Uh..yeah.
Caller:  I can get your money back for you in 10 days.
Me:  Well, you were right, this is a matter that the owner would need to decide on.
Caller:  If you can't make decision, what do you do there, just answer the phone and listen to me talk like a pervert?
Me:  You know, you are quite rude.

Then I hung up and Googled the number.

This is a number that a possible scammer in England sent us as a reference saying that the person here purchased a kitten from the possible England scammer lady in late Jan. 10. Her name is Susan Ket. It might be part of the scam. Be careful.

Caller calls twice a day, never leaving a message.  Probably a telemarketer or a paid bogus debt collector.

debt? What debt? replies to pmi
All DEBT has an expiration date, but you can accidentally revive old debt by talking with a debt collector. While state laws limit the amount of time debt collectors can chase you to pay debts or force collections through judgments and garnishments, some consumer mistakes can restart that clock.

Among them: acknowledging a debt, making a partial payment. Just ignore a notice that a creditor is about to sue on an old debt.

Even if you get a court document in the mail, do not ignore the documents but write on it "Past the statute of limitations" (provided it is past the date in your State). The courts will contact the Collection Agency and if they have no record of contacting you, receiving any payment (even partial), the courts will throw out the debt and they must cease from contacting your further. Leaving a message on your answering machine is illegal, as the person may not have the same phone number and they are not allowed to discuss the bill with anyone but the person it belongs to. If they contact a family member and discuss your debt, you can sue them for 2 times the debt owed. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!

Most debt collectors know this, so they won't take you to court. They'd rather just keep calling to harass you!

Never acknowledge a debt that is past the statute of limitations for your state.

Note: Discover Card is the one company that WILL TAKE YOU TO COURT IN TIME TO GET A JUDGEMENT. DO NOT MESS WITH THEM!
