- wondering replies to TeriIn Manitoba. Today (Apr. 22) I got the same call about the warranty...I thought maybe the registration on our vehicle had run out so I selected the operator. A man came on and asked me the make of my vehicle and year when I told him that more than one person here has a vehicle he said let's start with you. My reply, I don't have any in my name but my son & husband do. It was then that he hung up. I immediately called my husband and he said it was a scam & that next time if I decide to talk to the operator find out who is calling before saying anything.
- Marc TwainGet this call often...Just by an air horn and keep it beside the phone..You'll know when to use it!!
- mikeJust called by this number. Crap about a car warranty!
- SylvJust got called from them, no message. Sounds like I didn't miss anything important, heh.
- David| 1 replyI received a call here in Manitoba from this number at roughly 10:30am. Same deal. Car warranty. When I pushed 1 to speak to a representative he asked me for my car model and license number. I told him that he would have to explain in more detail what he was calling about and then he slammed the phone down.
From what I know about call centres, having worked for TELUS, it's impossible to slam the phone down as call centre employees have head sets. Also from my experience working at TELUS, I am familiar with a few different cases similar to this one with calls coming in the middle of the night and some harassment.
Just beware of handing out personal info.- Caller: Unknown
- Rick-in Winnipeg replies to DavidIf anyone who has inquired here today returns to read this, it seems that this kind of thing goes in "spurts". The 303 area code, calls from the 306 (Sask tel.) etc. It's always telemarketers and yeah, I too am on the Gov.'s DNC List. doesn't matter though. I now have Vonage, it allows me to block all Private Incoming Calls, my local ph. provider did not so I switched. Awhile ago I had a few calls from Sears, seemed that the window air conditioner (I never actually bought though) was soon to be up for renewal for the warranty. Idiots kept calling every evening. Sears Canada was told to cease and desist and then I hear they use an overseas service for those calls which cough, they say was exempt. Uh no, it wasn't. It seems today that The Globe and Mail IS allowed to call you and it is 1 of the places the DNC List doesn't allow you to refuse. I told the G & M -well, I guess by bothering me and not honouring my request, you'd rather piss me off so I NEVER buy your paper in the future no matter what. Alienate me now and I don't forget you know. So they too complied. It cost me a few minutes off my long distance allowance/quota for Vonage minutes but I never use up my 500 free per month anyway. Another thing for those reading this-I was in the local MTS directory for decades, now with Vonage I'm anonymous. Actually didn't know that canadapages.ca continues to post my real info though. Complained to them and advised they must take me off their list as this is now a matter of privacy. I have nothing to hide but DID switch to Vonage to avoid extra costs that my other provider would ding me for even having my number in the book which I advised I did not and they'd honour it if I paid of course. Just so all you people know, you can get 50 calls like you recently complained or questioned about recently, they can be 50 diff. places and there will always be those who inquire online about the same numbers. It's a plague but thankfully our cell numbers aren't targets-NEVER allowed to be of course and no matter who is calling you on your landline number, it's a dangerous game if they start, trust me. With Vonage, those annoying telemarketer calls dropped considerably, the registration on the DNC List added to that. Bitching ta them even better when possible. I have a really elderly neighbourwho used to get tons of calls each night from whoever was selling something-she's Polish and English is poor and we used to laugh when visiting her and the calls came in. They were very frustrated when she really couldn't understand them and her English was so broken. Advice? IF you do answer a call and it's a real live person on the other end, try this schtick okay. Ask them WHAT, many many times, start speaking some garbled words that COULD BE another language you know, then use a seriously BAD obscenity and let em hang up, OR, do you know what those boat horns sound like-the compressed air types that sound like fog horns? I have a rechargeable one and yup, it works. Good luck all, don't sweat it though, even if someone has your number they can't do much with it. Thanks for reading this and I hope I've helped today
- Sick of calls| 1 replyWinnipeg here. They're calling me too. I hit the ignore button (on my cell phone). No message. It's been quiet for me for a while. Have had the scamming old car warranty thing before. We can thank the Canadian goverment for selling our numbers to other countries. Canadian companies can't call us but other countries can. How's that for wanting a country to succeed? Sheesh. I have resorted to just not answering any number I don't recognize ever. It's when you pick up that they keep calling you because they know there's someone there.
