I got this call back on June 20th, 2009, at 2:11 PM.
I answered my cellphone, and a man spoke to me, asking me if someone was there.  (I forgot the name of the person he had asked for.)  I said no, and he hung up.

He probably hung up because he realized that from the sound of my voice, that I wasn't by any means an adult.  Haha.

    posting on this site too
these guys are criminals - call regarding credit card and have details they should not and are not related to any financial institutions
How are they getting personal info? Hacking on the internet or banks or inside the banks?
Why aren't some tax dollars going to stop these guys fleecing even more money from us too?

did you report it to the Do Not Call Registry?  I did and was told they are trying to stop this but these people are using throw away phones. But keep reporting numbers

I get calls from this number occasionally, as well as other sales pitches and collections calls.  Of course, it's illegal in the USA for businesses to cold-call you on your cellular phone (unless they already have a business relationship with you)... but some of them do it anyway.

I don't have a land-line phone, only a mobile phone.  The number of people who rely solely on their mobile phone is growing, and Android phones have the largest share of the smartphone market... so I think the following information will be helpful to many.

I always screen my calls, and when I get a call from a number I don't recognize, I let it go to voice mail.  However, I still get annoyed by the ringing of the phone.  When an un-recognized number actually leaves a voice mail, I'll listen to the message to see if it's someone I really need to talk to (like a company with whom I already do business, or my kid's school or something like that).

I recently discovered a neat feature on my Android phone.  I imagine this feature exists on most Android phones, so you should check it out.  I created two new contacts in my phone named "Sales Pitch" and "Bill Collector", and set the "Block caller" option to "On".

Now, when I get a call from a number I don't recognize, I go through the usual thing and listen to the voice message.  If they leave a message that is obviously from a bill collector or sales pitch, I add that number to my "Bill Collector" or "Sales Pitch" contacts.... and voila!  No more annoying calls from that number!

If they don't leave a message (or the message is just a hang-up), I search for the number online to see who they are.  Sites like this one are extremely helpful.  I also try to call them back to see who they are.  In the case of this particular number, I got a message that it's not a valid number.  This is a common message to receive when the caller is using an automatic dialer system.  Those numbers are often "outbound only" numbers (I know this because I have installed automated dialing systems for bill collectors in the past).

Now, the feature in my Android phone isn't perfect.  When they call again, my phone doesn't ring, but they can still leave a voice message.  However, my voice mail shows that the call was from "Bill Collector" or "Sales Pitch", so I can delete it without even listening to it!

Obviously, some collection agencies and telemarketers use multiple outbound numbers.  It's not unusual for a company to have 24, 48, 72, 96 or more outbound lines (there are 24 DS0's in a T1 circuit).  However, many automated dialing systems have the ability to "spoof" a number.  That means that the person who configures the automated dialer can choose the phone number that they want you to see on your caller ID.  The fact is that most (reputable) companies choose one number for you to see on your Caller ID, and that number is usually the phone number they use for in-bound calls.

If the caller calls from multiple numbers, you can enter each new number into a contact in your Android phone, and set that contact to block the call.  If you run out of room for numbers in a single contact entry in your phone's contact list (phone book), you can simply add more contacts, like "Sales Pitch 2", "Sales Pitch 3", etc.

So, while this idea isn't perfect, it has allowed me to reduce the number of "junk" phone calls that I get from several per day to one every week or two.  I've only been doing this for a few weeks, and I've already reduced the number of times my phone rings for unwanted calls by a huge percentage.

I used to leave my ringer turned off because of all the unwanted calls, and it caused me to occasionally miss important calls.  Now, I leave my ringer turned on and I don't miss those important calls.  At the same time, I rarely get those bothersome sales pitches and bill collectors anymore!  It's a win-win.

Because I use my personal phone for business too, I just answered with my business name and they hung up. Maybe they don't want to waste their time if they think I'm only the receptionist for a business so I'm hoping that means they won't call back.

I feel its the phone co. responsibility to fix this. Verizon offers 5 numbers blocked free. These people have endless numbers so there is no point to verizons solution. I am paying a premium price for this service, and if I have no way to block these #s then they are providing sub standard service. Its their service being corrupted by these scammers, so its up to them to fix their problem. Everytime I get a call, time permitting, I am calling verizon to complain. Lets all see how our carriers like being harassed by us!!!!

Great idea. My Android phone doesn't have a block number option but can "direct to voice mail" option with any contact, and I will use it. I received a call from that same number and I didn't answer it for two reasons: it was an unknown number to me and I don't answer any call at all while I'm having lunch or dinner since this is a time to share with myself and people I'm dinning with. I think that any call can wait some minutes more, since I'm not a doctor, firefighter or an emergency number.

I just talk to these scammers whenever I have time.  I'll let them wait while 'I find the card'. I give them the wrong card number...change the last 5 or so digets along with wrong 4 of SS and wrong zip.  Try to keep them on the line as long as possible.  I'll 'correct' the numbers when they cannot get them to work.

Waste as much of their time as possible.

    Just spent 18+ minutes with 'Jason Thompson...Rep # 1033'

I never give out my cell #. If I don't recognize the # I don't answer it. This one was clearly fishing for prospects...I find that if I don't answer they give up after a few days and assume it's a non-working # (most are auto-calls that will set some limit of # of tries w/out an answer before they move on). I have since registered my cell on the National Do Not Call Registry, so now if they continue I will report them.

I picked up to quiet my phone....It starts with "Please do not hang up!"   I stayed on to ask for the no call list so when she came on the line I asked to be placed on the NClist ...she mumbled a response and I asked "Excuse me"   Her response was "WHAT"S WRONG WITH YOU"  Then I was hot as I tried to explain to the now dead line how I was busy working and not interested in her useless iritating phone calls...
