Caller called and hung up. I returned the call and it said number not in service

Answered the call.  Person at other end asked for me by name, I answered "Speaking," and the caller hung up.  Makes me suspicious that it is one of those scammers that wants to get a recorded "Yes" in order to create a fraudulent contract with my recorded "Yes" to agree to their charges.

Same just happened to me.  I didn't recognize the number, I didn't answer it...NO Message.

Said he was from the police department  and my ride was on its way, then got static on the line and he disconnected!!!  Scary

This happend to me last night but they asked for my bf! I just hung up

Called, left no message

Someone called and said, "Is this Shelley?"  I said yes.  They said ok we'll call back later with a message.  WTH??

The number is similar to a friend's and I answered without realizing my mistake. Yes, this is a scam using a variety of excuses to obtain money. They may also be trying to get you to say "Yes" to their questions, although I've never understood how recording one short word could be used to obligate you to charges they make in your name. Why bother? It's easy to imitate the word "Yes" and I understand legally you aren't responsible unless there is clear proof it is your voice in the context of the rest of the conversation. However, there is a new twist to this one. I discovered my caller ID displayed something like (I didn't write it down) "Phone Co. Voice Mail." I don't have voice mail with my phone provider and didn't call back assuming it was one of those scams where I'd be charged a fortune for the call, but I called the phone company because I figured they'd be interested in knowing about the scam . Nope! They have no interest, can't help, won't prevent it. Thank you Frontier.
