I received a call on my cell today ( 12/30/12)  saying that a family member was in a serious car accident. They asked if  I had a Father, Husband, or son living  in NY, but would not tell me their name when I questioned.  They said I had to answer the question first and then they would give me the details.   I was so upset..literally sick to my stomach..  I have lost family recently and found this highly upsetting.. what in the world is going on?  Evil is all around us.. wish they could be stopped.. God help us!

I received a call this morning claiming my brother was in a car accident and was hurt, the story then switched to him being held at gunpoint and a demand for $2000,when I did not provide further information, they "killed him"and hung up!
Once I got in touch with my brother only to find out he was OK, in utter hysterics by the way, I looked up the number and found this blog. I cant believe there are so many incidents reported and this guy still is not caught!
I called the Woodside 110th precinct which is aware of the "scam", but have not been able to do much since the number is from a "burner phone" which is untraceable.  I was told to report it locally (our of state).  I then reported it with my local police, though it seems they are not going to do anything about it.  Such a tragedy!  This piece of [***] needs to be tortured and burned alive for what awful panic he caused myself and all these other people!

it has nothing to do with who is smarter n who isnt when u receive that phone call the world stops n it becomes real no matter how smart u might be all u r thinking about is that loved one!!!

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department has received several complaints in reference to telephone calls originating from 347-891-1626. The caller informs the intended target that a family member or friend has been kidnapped (sometimes after a car accident has taken place) and money would have to be sent in order to facilitate their safe return.
Town of Poughkeepsie residents receiving calls of this type are urged to contact the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department at 845-485-3666.

Called us today also same story fortunately we called our son on another phone and knew he was ok . This guy has had this phone for a while hard to believe in this day and age they can't track it

We got the same message this weekend . what a scare it was until we got ahold of the son to be sure

this guy Mike is scamming people from puertorico to miami and NY and he uses numbers from those areas he scammed my mom yesterday and she believed it and paid him 1k!!!! i would have beleived it was a scam and quetioned him but my mom would not say a single word to me not even text me to call my dad it was the most ridiculous thing i have ever experienced i had no idea where she was going when she left the house so me and her boyfriend were following her around everywhere in miami she was going from the bank to publix and back and forth i was under the impression it was real because i tohugh they had my little sister and fathers actual names if they didnt have it immediately i would call double BS

Happened to my family this morning same thing Spanish Puerto Rican accent and we even heard gunshots in the background!! The worst experience to go thru!! I hope they get busted that was so mean to do. Thank god my brother is OK!!

I received the same phone call today but it was from restricted number. The guy told me about the car accident, BMW, his crazy cousin who keeps my friend hostage at a gunpoint. THEY WANTED $2000. If I call police or talk to anyone, they promise to kill him. When I told them I have no money and don't know where to get it, the said that are shooting "the m.f....", and hung up. I  called the person they were referring to, and he was fine at work.
