received a call saying they work for the US government/labor board......B

This # called saying they were from the US Labor Dept. and had a package to go out. They needed to verify the address, which they had, then they asked for the person in the payroll department name and I gave the first name only. He said he was unable to send with out last name. Told him I could not give out such info and he hung up. Other sites have a lot more comments regarding this number. Scammer don't answer

Called our office and claimed to be Dept. Of Labor.DID NOT show up Dept. Of Labor on caller ID.

A lady by name Sandra Malone calling from the Department of Labor to verify our company address and the person in charge of payroll.

3 calls on my caller ID from same # With US Gov. I need to thretened them call police when they call me

It is actually a division of the Dept of Labor. They collect statistics, etc. What they're mailing you will come in an official envelope. All that's in the envelope is the explanation, etc. They ask for your payroll person because they are looking to collect payroll stats. They don't ask for any personal info, they will just ask how much is the total payroll and for how many employees.

I work for the US Department of Labor and we are not scammers, solicitors or selling anything, we handle the Jobs data report which is the first economic indicator how well we are doing in Job labor, earned income, APR rates.  things Americans need each and everyday, without this report,  we cannot accurately account for the Jobs being gained in the US.

The  Department of Labor has many divisions, we are just one component of it. and also,  if you are a Business owner, then your business may be selected. When you are applying for a job and the details are out there about which Jobs are hiring the most and pay grades etc..  that's us:)  so it is beneficial for all to comply, think of it as a civil duty.

1. Why would you be looking up this number?  I have feeling you are a shill doing damage control.
2. White pages and other sites have this as private number in the Atlanta Area.  So I am guessing the number is a spoof.
3. Web search shows a good number of complaints about phishing scammers using this number.

Federal officials have been asked to investigate a scam targeting businesses in which a caller claims to be from the U.S. Department of Labor. The caller demands personal information stating it is needed for a 401(k) plan audit.

Be on the lookout for these calls. The callers threaten fines for failing to cooperate, but there is no audit, they are phishing for personal and financial information. The scammers request employee information for all covered under the company's 401(k) plan including social security numbers.

The Department of Labor confirmed that the phone calls are not coming from their office and they are investigating the issue. If you receive a similar call, report it to BBB Scam Tracker and to the AIM (Associated Industries of Massachusetts) at 800-470-6277.

BBB wants you to be aware of some common red flags of government impersonation scams and be on the lookout for fraudsters contacting your business.

See my post to above to Annon.  The number that you are report - 404-893-4120 - is suspicious, and probably a spoof.

The number given to you to call back - 800-347-3764 - also has problems. Search results range from Phishing Scams to "Legit".  To make for greater confusion, there are scammers who will leave contact number that is "legit".  Those are crooks looking to make a score in one call, and who don't want you calling them back on their phone, which might be a burner in any case.

The Dept of Labor does collect data, but when I got those questions, it was by a mailing, not a phone call.  Things may be different now, but I am skeptical enough to advise caution about what info you might offer or confirm if you return the call.  The Dept of Labor does have a website, you might be able to find info there about the call.

I believe you hit the nail on the head.  This "anonymous" is having a hard time spelling, let alone convincing me that I should trust him/her.  For one, "Anonymous", maybe you should attempt to assuage my fears but using your real name and contact info here in this thread.  Using "Anonymous" tells me that you do not want to be contacted--just as I do not by your incessant calls.  But if you were to put your number on there (your real number), I'd be happy to inundate you with calls pretending to be from the Dept. of Jellybeans.

Civil duty? the civility of me answering basic questions about my business has been once again confused by your inept staff with civic duty...
Civic duty? the responsibilities of a citizen... are wide ranging... have nothing to do with answering the phone or answering questions from a suspect source.

I got a call from. Leslie from this number. Introduced herself to be from the dept if labor. She knew basic information about how many employees I have and blah.. blah... I gave her my CPA’s number to call and she never did. I got very suspicious when she started “axing” more information about the company
