The Caller ID said Montreal, Quebec. A spam call.

I just got this one. Yes, they call to see when you are home.  They are paid to do this by legitimate companies, so don't be so quick to let them off the hook just yet.  The way it works is they hire people, often out of the country so they are not violating American Do Not Call list.  They are checking when you are home then they hand that info off to American telemarketers who are polite about asking if you want to be taken off the list.  It's a back door way to research the best time you will answer your phone.

Do you honestly think you are funny, dik head?

it was French from Quebec--where their primary language is French

They called but didn't leave a message. QUEBEC?

Got a call from this number today. No message left. I returned the call and heard an automated message in French. What is this?

Didn't answer, but it left a short strange message.  A female voice, she says: Pardon, and then there's mumbling for a very brief moment, and a hang up.
