Yes, makes sense. My economist subscription ran out recently and I am not renewing.

I had a subscription which I cancelled (I'm in Australia) and get calls every second day.  I don't answer and they just hang up without leaving a message.

Do not answer this call if you do not gave long distant calling. I am being charged 2.08 for a minute phone call where I told them to not contact me again. So far they have not, however I am still very upset it cost $2.

I just got a call from this number yesterday at about 330pm California Time, USA.
while i was picking up my kids from schoool and while i was driving,  I kid glanced at the keyphone
and saw;  44+  i notice  this is europe  or Russia ....??? hahaha,
I can tell you out there.....whatever he/she/caller attempt to get through and make sale,

It's The Economist magazine soliciting subscriptions?! I've had a subscription to The Economist for years and it's on automatic renew.

The +44 # was a scam .... the call comes out of Canada .....I talk with these losers all the time ...he said I won the  2 mil lottery  and I needed to drive there to sign papers to receive  the money...I wasted his time for a half hour......I said I lived in Alaska  and would meet him in the middle........I had this  guy so frustrated. I almost felt sorry for him. .....

This number has called me many times.
I accidentally subscibed to the economist. I don't like it

missed this call - received "hello" as a voice message - probably spam as I'm living in Belgium

They called from the UK but didn’t answer. If I knew it was a legitimate call from The Economist magazine I would’ve answered

Got a call but did not answer because I am in Tokyo, either. If they left a message I might have called back but they didn't.

Called several times these past 10 days, once or twice per day.  Never did they leave a message, so I do not answer.
If it is really The Economist... well, let's just say : what a schame!

I received a call from this number - I missed it and I was wondering. This is suspicious.

Yes its The Economist in the UK.  It seems that they solicit current subscribers to do gift subscriptions, particularly around the end of the year (like now).

The also told me they are from the Economist, but I haven't verified the information.

I tried to engage the caller in a conversation but not find out much. And  yes, it sees they were trying to give me some gift if I would have involved others in subscribing. However, they were not pushing too much, although I have found the whole idea of the Economist trying to get this word of mouth way to get more subscription quite sloppy, not much Economist style.I will do some more verification, just for the sake of it.
