The ATT blocking service isn't working to screen this and several other scam calls. I'm paying two fees to block calls labeled unidentified, unknown, and personal, as well as call-blocker that blocks only 10 numbers and isn't working for numerous scam calls (they simply label themselves as "California", "Progressive Insurance", etc.. I'm canceling the extra services and will proceed to plan B (like I have time for THAT)- FTC complaints. Can't change phone number for business reasons. So annoying!

Merchant Care - I just answered the call.  They call every few days.  No one is ever there until this time.  His name was Thomas.  Very polite, not pushy at all.  Told him I wasn't interested and he thanked me for my time.  I've told them in the past, when I got a live person, to take me off their list.  It does no good at all.  There has to be a way to get them to leave us the hell alone!!!

This company is a "work at home" telemarketer.  I have on my cell phone an ap called Call Control.  Anyone I do not want to hear from I ad to my "black list" and when they call I don't even hear it my Call Control automatically hangs up on them.  You can set it up several different ways.  You can have different lists to where they can leave a message only etc.  This is a wonderful ap and I do not have to worry about unwanted calls anymore.  I tried the reporting do not call thing and of course like many others it doesn't work.  Try this ap you will love it.

I get about 3 to 5 calls a day from this number and they refuse to take me off of their call list. I finally got a nice guy that gave me a number to call and get off the call list. The company is Merchant Care and there number is 1-877-733-2715. Call here to get taken off list. Although they say it can take up to 72 hours. We will see but this should be able to be reported somewhere! I have a pay as you go phone and they are costing me a fortune. And to refuse to take you off of a call list is unbelievable!
I hope this helps others to get off this companies list.

I truly believe the first line of action is free.
    1)  get an answering machine (not voicemail) and let all calls go to that.

    2)  On top of that, get Caller ID and just don't answer any calls you don't recognize.

    3)  If that still does not help, use Call Trace faithfully over 2-6 months and build a case.  You can then take your records to the police and they have an obligation to investigate.

From the Telus Website you can read:

"Call Trace (*57) provides legal evidence of harassing calls to your number.   This is a free service.  Trace for 2 weeks, and also keep track of the calls on paper.
If you receive a harassing call:
    1.Hang up immediately.
2.Lift the receiver and listen for the dial tone. Press *57 to trace the last call to your line.
3.If the call was a threat to life, contact the police immediately. If not, the police suggest you trace three calls before contacting them.
4.**** Be sure to note the date and time of each harassing call. ****
5.Call Trace information is released to the police only. You will not be advised of the caller's number.
6.Call Trace is effective even when the caller has blocked their name and number.

If you receive nuisance hang-up calls, the police are not in a position to take action."

(And I personally add here:  unless you use Call Trace and record evidence over some time.  Evidence demands a verdict.  If you feel you know the callers and feel threatened, call the police. Lay charges if necessary.)

    Website continues:
"If you need more help using Call Trace or require any additional information call the Calling Features Helpline at 1-800-663-8131 at Telus and follow the easy-to-use voice prompts."

Telus has some great calling features such as Anonymous Caller ID and Caller Reveal that you can add to your account for a few months that require unknown numbers or  blocked numbers to reveal who they are.  Anonymous Caller ID requires them to say their name, and you have some options such as receiving the call, or sending them a message saying you are not accepting calls at this time or telling them you do not accept calls from telemarketers - please take number off calling list.

Caller Reveal requires them to enter their phone number and software determines if the number they enter is "real, fictitious or unknown".   You can then choose to answer if you like or let it go to voicemail or answering machine to further determine their identity.

Legal action on harassing or threatening phone calls should be actively pursued through your police or RCMP office, but make sure you have a good amount of evidence (record of calls, dates, times, even recordings if you can manage that, etc) before doing so.   Of course threatening calls you should always call 911 especially if you have reason to fear something and know who it might be.

A pattern of hjarassing calls (such as hangups) might benefit from the various call screen, anonymous caller id, call reveal, caller id features that most phone companies now have.  Some discounts can be applied to your account depending on the severity/length of the problem.

Again, the cheapest option is letting all calls go to a physical answering machine that you can monitor calls as they come in, picking up the legitimate ones.  This was the way we did it in the 80's.  If you are still on Dial-up (we feel sorry for you), but it is still an option for some, you can subscribe to an Internet Call Director service so that you can see calls coming in without having to go off line, by directing them to voice mail or answer.  I was told they were going to drop this service, so I was forced to high-speed service not from my phone company eventually (since my phone company did not serve our rural area with high speed).  Kind of off topic sorry.

Since the phone companies seem to have limited legal recourse at this time besides suggesting you use Call Trace,  I am of the personal opinion that eventually only a class action suit against phone numbers or identified Merchant Circles or online marketers who refuse to remove you from Lead Lists might be the way to go, but consumers should not be forced to pay for this, rather the offenders.  If you are on a Do Not Call List, you are on a Do Not Call List.  If those companies who call you repeatedly do not respect this, then they are breaking the law and can be charged.  Some are so successful with their scams they continue anyway, but then we need to charge them again and again and again.  I have had some success with Do Not Call lists especially with certain charities that I prefer not to support.  I believe most charities have taken a different approach now (to their credit), and with the ability to receive emails from your favorite charities or follow/twitter/tweet/facebook them online a lot of the phone calls seem to have stopped.  Being on DNC might have helped too.  Having respect for OPT-In and Opt-Out options is greatly appreciated online - why not also for offline businesses?  If the business you deal with does not have opt-in optout options now, I would not opt-in in the first place.  Test the opt-out right away to make sure it actually works.

Since the most serious and best action we expect telephone companies to take (in cooperation with police or government spam/scam operations) is to deny service to the telemarketer, I believe the complaints of customers need to be more seriously taken.
If upon reapplying for internet or phone service a company is not being screened for particulars, our telephone companies are nothing more than pawns in the hands of criminals.  Denial of service hits telemarketers and survey companies hard.  I have

Upon getting one complaint regarding a number trying to call phone customers, proactive action must be taken by customers, police and phone companies.  We must assume that by now offenders are calling millions of phone company customers, and millions of customers are not answering their phones anymore.  This has become somewhat of a national threat to our phone system, and is actually costing, not the scammers a lot of money, but the customers as we try desparately to block these offenders with an ever growing list of caller id or call blocking services.  The telemarketing problem blossomed into online spam problem with no end in site (other than junk mail filters).  Reporting each one meticiulously is a full-time job, but some repeated offenders can be stopped through targeted spam reporting, etc.

This whole situation is a travesty of great proportions.  If you have a law that violators of Do Not Call lists will be at least investigated and if necessary prosecuted upon gathering evidence in US or Canada, then websites can be extremely helpful.  However, I'm not holding my breath since

Keep posting your complaint however, and draw the attention of the RCMP to this site, as well as printing it's content for evidence in your case against harassing calls.

    Now back to 480-845-6768.....

If you call this number back, you  will be given three options.
1 be added to permanent do not call list
2 would learn more of this business opportunity from live account manager
3 already contracted with US Javasist, and want to talk to customer service

Upon pressing 2, I am cut off.
Upon pressing 3 - I am cut off
Upon pressing 1 - I am cut off

This is unacceptable for any company not to answer their calls or have a broken menu system.

I give them twenty thumbs down, and will now report them to the RCMP and the phone company, along with getting some call screen service for a time.

If they are calling you 20 times a day. That is harrassment.  Report it to the police now - write down what you say, what they do or say, and the date and time of each call.  Make a visit to your police station to lodge the complaint.  Also, write to your local newspaper so that other people can also take action.

    On May 13 I called 1-877-733-2715.
The first call was not processed.
The second attempt  took 5 rings to answer and I got an australian man giving a recorded announcement that all of us in Customer Service are busy, leave your name and number and account id and we'll call you back.   There was no company name given with the recording.
The third attempt  after 5 rings I got a friendly lady on the line.  They are indeed part of the Merchant Care program that tries to hire people who will generate leads for them.  I asked them to take me off their list today, it takes about 72 hours she said.
However, she did not know what the outbound call number was that their lead followup department might be using was.
I explained to her that multiple calls from this number were coming in to my home and others and that upon answering on the first or second ring, there was still no one on their end to talk to.
She said if the auto-dialler is sensing an answering machine it may hang up.  I said I'm seeing the call, answering on the first ring and getting a hang up.

Now what is very interesting is that within 1 minute of hanging up from this call,  minutes of hanging up form this call, I got a phone call from the number we are discussing here.  I had about 1/2 an hour ago, tried to use the bulit in software in my phone to block the number, and it worked.  It showed up as Blocked Nujmber, and I could not even answer it.  Looking at my caller id list I see it was 480-854-6768.
That this company does not know it's outbound call numbers is actually proof they are a scam and I would flee when they call.  Any legit company knows their outbound call numbers and is open about it.

To their credit, they have added me to their list.  Maybe the call within the 2 minutes was their way to check if my phone number was legit, but they did not say they were going to check it.  Anyway, it's blocked.

    It is "US Job Assist".
Since calling them back did not bear fruit, I tried calling 1-877-733-2715 to get off the list just in case they are connected.   This number  is for a Merchant Care, a company that is harassing everyone in Canada and US to try to get them to pay 500 to work for them to generate leads for businesses using Point of Service terminals.  They are trying to get piece of the market, since apparently right now the bank is the middle man in this business.  If you are not in the lead generating business, this is not for you.  But if you like this it might be for you - however, realize it is a business - it requires investment from you.  It's not a job - it's a business.  Don't sign up if you don't have 500 to blow.  It's still a risk if you get no solid leads.  I think it's better to develop your own product and sell it on line.

    I called the number 616-980-2601.

This is a customer service management system, and they do not identify which company you have reached.  I hate that.
Anyway, since you have commited to the call already, just enter your phone number and apparently your number will be removed from their list.
    It's always worth a try.

    Next I tried to call:
1-888-382-1222 - This number is "not available in my area at this time" (Canada area?)

I called 616-980-2601 again, but instead of pressing 1, I waited to see if there was more:
"You have reached the Customer Service Automated Management system, if you have been called by one of our Sales Agents and wish to be removed from our calling database please press 1 now."
I did not press 1 now, but waited, then, there was huge pause, and finally,
"In order to speak to a live agent, call 616-555-1234"
"Since many of our agents work business hours or something....."

I called the number (I suspect it already with a 555 prefix)
    Recording answers:
"Your call cannot be completed as dialed.  0143"

So, all in all, it's one bogus system after another!

This caller came up as three different IDs, on my Caller ID.  Progressive Insurance, Unicore, Corp and Private caller.  Researching, Progressive is a well known insurance company, Unicore has many identities  ranging from Government agencies and High Tech companies all located in California.  I started with Progressive and contacted their customer service department stating that I was going to file suit with the FTC for violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (“TCPA”).  Each occurrence is a violation carrying a fine of $1,500.00.  To date the calls totaled $78,000.00

I was contacted by the legal department of Progressive insurance and with their help the telephone number was in fact ONCE owned by Progressive.  The identity of the company is now US Job Assist.

Now, why are they calling you.  I have this number on block with my Panasonic cordless phone.  Check your phone's features, you may find it also can block callers.  At any rate if you or any member of your family ever inquired about any online work at home scheme, that is where they got your number.

Some supposed resolutions that I've found to be useless are:
    1.  The National No Call List - they do nothing but compile data and no tele marketer is required to use the list.
    2.  Filing a complaint with the FTC - This also does nothing more than to add to the FTC's vast collection of similar data on which they are not compelled or able to do act upon.

    Ways to stop the calls:
    1.  Caller block via your phones capabilities
    2.  Contact your phone company for privacy caller ID.  What that is, is a caller has to identify themselves before the call is put through.  So, your phone rings a recorder will state you have a call, you will hear the caller state his/her name and company name and reason for call.  You then press 1 on your phone to accept the call, or 2 to deny the call.  The caller then gets a recorded message "Call cannot be completed as dialed"
    3.  File a lawsuit against the caller and not only stop the called but get enough in penalty fees to pay your lawyer and buy a new car, or boat.  Violations carry a 1,500.00 penalty PER CALL!
