The IRS website includes this link for reporting exactly this type of scam, and it took me <5 minutes to complete.- Caller: Internal Revenue Service

- CubsGirlGot the same message--twice. One, the IRS doesn't start out with a call. Two, they don't identify themselves as the "Internal Revenue Services" (plural), Three, if they find a discrepancy, they then perform the audit (aside from a simple numerical error, for which you get a notice. You also get notice of an audit.) Four, only the most recent three years are open to audit (with a few exceptions relating to fraud). Five, if you have been audited and they make findings, you have an opportunity to contest and generally to request a payment plan.

- TexasJust got a voice mail from 509/588-7318 from an unidentified caller. When I checked the area code I thought it was from a family member, but voice mail said it was the IRS and we were being sued. So glad that others have reported that this is a scam. Very unnerving.

- Doesn't MatterThey have called 5 times today. I've had this number for a decade and have never received a scam call before. Guess I'm on their radar now. :-( Same experience as everyone else. Angry "IRS" agents threatening to send authorities if I didn't settle on the phone right then. I laughed and hung up

"Note that the IRS will never: 1) call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill; 2) demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe; 3) require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card; 4) ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone; or 5) threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying."- Call type: Prank
