Why don't you identify yourselves in the mailings as Direct Buy?  Most people are too smart for this sort of [***] these days, good luck with the few who aren't.

I received one in Rochester, NY.  What I want to know is if there is a catch?  I am willing to sit through the pitch (and say no) if I know I will walk away with a netbook or touchpad.  Has anyone actually gone through with the presentation and actually received the electronics?  Thanks!

OK, so I spent a couple of hours digging last night and I've figured out the "free netbook or pad" angle of the deal.  The units are dispersed through a separate company called Product Claim Center.  Here is their web location http://productclaimcenter.com/Default.aspx.  You will receive a voucher that you must redeem through them to receive your "prize."  The catch involves 2 fees, one of $15 (handling) and the other of $60 (activation).  Therefore, you are paying a total of $75 for this electronic.  The electronics are made in China and are distributed through Chinese wholesalers.  They cost about $62 when purchased in bulk.  see http://www.usbsea.com/products/7_inch_Windows ... _R-PC-M702.html and http://www.kiel.com.cn/English/En_ProductShow.asp?ArticleID=4867.  The bottom line is they are selling these to you for slightly more than they cost themselves to buy them.  You can purchase them yourselves from legitimate dealers for about $75.  Also, the restaurant coupons require you to spend "X" amount to receive discounts up to $100.  Bottom line, there still "ain't no free lunch."

I received one of the notifications in the mail, telling me that I had qualified for a free tablet with Android software, all I would have to pay for is shipping, handling, and activation. I had also qualified for a DVD/BLU-RAY player, from a manufacturer that I have never heard of (I worked in home video for 20+ years), if I contacted them within 72 hours. I figured this was a scam, and I knew that the "fees" I would be charged would exceed the value of the free items, and it was not worth the two hours that I would spend in their warehouse being high pressured into a membership I couldn't afford and wouldn't use. So I, like so many others before me, fed my shredder's insatiable appetite with it.

And...you will receive a high pressure sales pitch to buy an overpriced Direct Buy membership to purchase goods that you can get at local retailers or online for MUCH CHEAPER! And the fliers sent are deceptively labeled as coming from Microsoft. Only on the back of the certificate, in small print, is Direct Buy even mentioned. Smacks of illegal advertising to me that any state's Attorney General would be interested in. I'm so sick of these companies scamming timid and easily led consumers.

any company that does not use their own companys name in what they are offering clearly has something to hide.  Direct Buy may or may not be a legitimate company, but it is clearly using tactics that are borderline ethical.  Why not just say who you are and what you are offering?  I can understand the high pressure sales, lots of industries play on the weak minded ignorant people and it is a free market economy.  But why are you afraid of saying that you are Direct Buy in the advertising and prefer to use other company's logos like microsoft or google.  I am 100 % positive that those companies are not trying to selling their products by not disclosing their company name and using Direct Buy's name in their marketing tactics.  I wonder why?

I do understand all your concerns.. i have also received a call from direct buy, I attended the open house tour, undergo sales pitch... and since were planning to remodel our home that time, so we sign up for a membership.. after that, we left with our guaranteed gifts 3/2 get away and $100 restaurant gift card that the other clients also recieved and even those who didnt sign up but finished the tour... we actually used that get away when we attended a wedding of my friend in Seattle. there some extra charges but still a big savings... As long as you are qualified client and finished the tour  you will be receiving that gift even without signing... just be wise when to use it... and regarding the membership it is not actually for everyone..thats why you must understand first how it really work? coz for us it works....

Whats the catch on the epad and dinner voucher? There always some sort of fee we have to pay in order to activate it?

No, you don't have to pay for the gifts, but to activate them you do, am I correct or no? Cause my husband wants to drive over an hour tonight to one and I will be extemely angry when I waste the gas and them activation fees.

My husband and I went to this direct buy thing. Thank goodness we were the only ones that said no to them from our group. I'm just curious if they do fulfill there part by giving us the promise gifts for our time...do we really get a trip 3 day 2 nite or is that a scam to???  I tried to google if the promised trips are real however all I can find is the membership scam...

Interesting thing is that we are already members and you idiots continue to call.  We've saved enough to break even on the member buy-in cost but this marketing crap is about to run us off.  How about you go get a new marketing database instead of borrowing the member database from the turd next to you?
