Thank You I been trying to figure out who was calling from this number for the longest.

They are calling me and I don't know what they want, they won't leave a valid message and I don't know any person in Pennslyvania, so who are they?

I just reported them to the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY, so we'll see what happens. I have no problem settling my debts, but I will not be harassed in the process, and that is why I reported them, if they are any kind of valid company they would have proper phone etiquette.  That's all I am saying.  So when they get a complaint from the DO NOT CALL REGISTRY they will perhaps take a look at things, and if it persists I will file a complaint with BBB.

They called trying to collect a debt (which I may or may not have paid) from 2003.  Past the statue of limitations for all 50 states.  They said it does not work that way and they were going to report it to the credit reporting agency.  If they contact you find out the debt information, account number, first delinquent date, amount, original creditor, do not admit to the debt.  Get there contact information and send them a letter (certified, with delivery confirmation) saying they may only contact you via mail.  If they get in touch via phone after that you may sue them.  These guys are crooks and should be treated as such.

I am receiving calls from 570-706-8800 different people call and are advising I owe money, they refuse to give the name of company and refuse to send a bills they are rude and yell and tell me am being rude when I ask who is calling.
Very unprofessional and unethical. Who the hell are they?

Those of you who are posting here saying "take me off your list" have absolutely no common sense whatsoever...If you did a little bit of researching you'd be able to find out who owns this number...Putting on a public forum that doesn't belong to the owner of the number requesting to be removed from a list...Well, lets just hope you're not breeding...

It's Penn Foster's Collection Department which also has connections with Ability Recovery Services LLC.

HINT--It's a collection company...If it doesn't apply to you let them know and then report all further calls to your local BBB etc...

If it is legit and you do owe them money then pay your bills or stop taking on debt you can't afford...Then you wouldn't receive these type of calls...They can legally keep calling you unless you're in the midst of a bankruptcy so stop whining...They are calling you because you owe money...If someown owed you money what would you do?

This is a civil case and would be filed under FDCPA in a magisterial court.

Look up "collections cease and desist" for an example of a letter.  Note: the letter does not eliminate the debt or make it disappear.  It does provide a method to eliminate phone calls.  The specifics of what those communications will be are better described on this website.

Of course we would all prefer to pay our debts BUT in certain cases companies engage in bad practice.  It does no good to receive unending phone calls.  Especially when you can't afford electricity or food this month.

I would encourage anyone to pay what is owed but to do so in ways that YOU control.  Debt collectors do not work for your best interest.  Many third party collectors are VERY unscrupulous.  

Never make payment arrangements over the phone.  
Never pay what are asserted to be debts owed without documentation in hand.  
No offer for payment over the phone is so special that it can't be done via mail with the appropriate documentation.  Be suspect of letters as well... make sure you have the actual original account information.

Be able to clearly track the account back to a debt you in fact own.

A debt owed to a collection agency that they have purchased from another collector is a quite different thing than an account due to the original creditor.  What debts you decide to pay is up to your conscience but that's the point.  It should be about YOUR decisions that YOU make.

I received a call today saying I owed money to this place??? the women got very rude with me when I told her my name was not Amy, I hung up on her and she called back and called me a "FU*KING [***]". Next time I will call a lawyer and press charges!!

They've been calling for Eugene Jacobs for months after I've repeatedly told them I've had this phone for 13 years and have never heard of him. They are nasty and I finally end up telling them not to call again, so another one of their nest of vipers calls me and acts like an a$$hat.

   I have no problem with you guys wanting your money but you need to get some more professionals in your business. You have some ghetto people on your phones. I told you all I had a pending disability hearing which will be on June 25th. I do not appreciate the lady on the phone on 6/14/2012 at 4:49pm. I have research and if i did finish the course no one would hire me because it's an online school. Now call me and explain that!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure if it was this same number or not that called me a few months ago, but they are calling my cell phone now. The call I got a few months back the person "said" they were a lawyer and that they had a warrant for my arrest sitting in front of them and if I didn't pay them $1,256.33 then he was going to put my warrant through. They got me that time, so they think. I paid that money with a credit card, and immediately checked my credit card company. These people took out MORE than the amount that he had told me, so I put a stop payment on it and the next day he called me back and said, "Ms. _________ I am putting this warrant through, the police will be there shortly to get you." Yeah, so I turned my ringer off on my house phone and I am ignoring them on my cell phone. And ya know what, I am going today to change both those numbers. Probably disconnect my house phone because we NEVER use it anyway. :)

Let's think about this for a minute.... Change my number because the jerks keep calling? Isn't that letting them control my life? If I change my number every time some idiot called my phone I would never have a constant number. And I would pass on this mess to whoever gets my old number, thereby letting these jerks continue to harass people. Uh, no. On top of that, for some people, changing your number costs money. I know my cell phone company charges a fee every time you want a new number. 1) I can't afford that. 2) Wouldn't that (again) be letting these nutjobs control my life? And if I'm not the person who they're looking for, then why on earth would I want to spend MY money to change my number? I might as well pay off the persons debt for them! Seriously, your advice is ridiculous. Wash off the yellow streak down your back and stand up to these jerks! Make a few phone calls of your own (to the BBB, police, a lawyer, etc.) and let these people know you mean business!

They call and ask for someone named Eugene Jacobs that I have never heard of, and I've had this phone number for many years. It's gone on for a year now, and I cannot get them to stop harrassing me.

My cousin changed her number because they were getting wrong number harrassing calls just like we are, and then she started getting new ones for a different person at her new number. Until there is a combination of legal and technical solutions that actually work, I fear we are doomed to either turn it off or only allow certain numbers to get through when we are sleeping or busy.

This is incredible--I get calls for this Eugene Jacobs guy, too. I block the number, but my cell company doesn't block numbers but 60 days. And sometimes they just use a new number and call anyway. I'm going to try the cease and desist letter someone mentioned, but this shouldn't be necessary.

Harassing phone calls from them. I have no idea who they are or what they want. We just aquired 4 new numbers and they are dialing in on one. They hang up on me when I try to call them back.
