I have these jokers call all the time. At first I would just not answer or hang up when I did answer and realized what it was....but then an idea came to me...what if I could cost them time and money....so the next time they called I did as told until I got an operator…then I follower his lead and answered as many of his question as he asked…I asked a lot of questions myself ( the wackier the better) I let him give me his spiel all the while keeping up the insistent question asking…..I made small talk with him and ask about his family and his personal life…I took the time to use the washroom while he talked to me…I told him about my dogs illness and the problems I had with my car…all the while giving him as much info as I possibly could…..45 minutes later he finally hung up on me….relax people I was scamming the scammer…none of the info I gave him was real….just real enough sounding to keep him on the line…even the credit card # I gave was false…but it did have the correct amount of numbers and a believable expiry date. My way of thinking is that I made them waste 45 minutes of there time (which they paid for as they called me) and probably kept them from bothering others…I can’t wait until they call back.

Am in Toronto. Called today - Feb. 22, 2011 at 4:30p.m. Was out and no msg left. Will block this number.

...Same deal as Steven T but I was going to play the scam so I hit 1.  ...five seconds to disconnect...   Too bad! I wanted to have some fun and tie up the SoB's.  You know; hold on a minute while I call my wife to get the numbers; fake a call to my wife while she reads back a half a dozen numbers dates etc. which I carefully repeat with the scamer line "accidentally" still open; fake name; fake number; sorry I got messed up on the number; here try this one.  

I had some time on my hands.  You can keep these scumbags on the line for quite some time if you're creative.

Your idea of (* xx) to let a tel-co know a call is garbage is a great idea!  I just got a call from 616-980-2782 with Call Display name "Michigan".  That is almost always a tip-off the call is from a robot.  Bogus names like "Michigan" get the "Click (pause) Click" treatment from me. If the caller is a legitimate business they should let me know their name *before* I take the call.  If their tel-co can not get a proper name into Call Display, get a different tel-co.

I use TELUS' email and at the click of a button I can tell them an incoming email is SPAM.  A telephone call is often much more of an interruption than a Subject Line in my inbox.  I should be able to treat junk phone calls the same way I treat junk email.

A burst of *76 (Spam Message?) from their customers to a tel-co would give them the information they need to do something about it.

I have received many calls from 616-980 2782 offering to reduce rates on mastercard or visa.
You cannot respond as it is a recorded message.  Wish the authorities would stop these idiots!
Guess the "idiots" must get some response otherwise they would not keep calling everyone.
We can still hope the authorities will catch up to them.

the initial message indicated that this was "my" credit card company and this was my last chance to lower my interest rate. to speak to a representative press 1". So I did and let the person who answered know that I found the call strange and misleading and that I would report this number. He hung up on me before I could finish my sentence. This sounds like they are trying to obtain people's credit card information.

Called 3 times in the past few days. When I pressed 1 to speak to someone then complained about being called again, they hung up, no answer when called back.

www.donotcall.gov    Sign up, it's free and after 31 days if they keep calling you, you can sue them [if you want].  I signed up for this and my phone has quieted down a lot.

Woman refuse to tell me the name of her company, BUT she wanted my credit card info to reduce my interest rate.....I told her to take me off the calling list, she replied, NO! I was shocked so I repeated myself again, and again she said NO! and then hung up on me.
