I just got a call from this number -- after a few sentences I picked up that it was a soundboard being used on voice recognition. Which is why they want you to spell out email addresses etc...even all the first page posts about this number are fake.

You can call the number back though and screw with the soundboard for fun. That's what I recommend.

I don't believe one of the responses above is legit.  The whole thing is phony.

I called them back and signed up for the movies after I checked out the website. It is all automated, and the guy they have voicing it is real good. He sounds as if he is actually speaking with you. It seems to me that they are trying to promote better films and DVD's for our kids. I am all for that. There is too much trash out there for kids. www.kidsfirst.org

Not sure how they got my cell number but talked to a guy anyway--wanted to send information to an email and with how things are now and virus', scams, hackers, etc... I said NO.  I wish I would have seen this first as this seems to be a pretty decent outfit.  I also agreed to have them send me movies but I do not know how they will get to me as I didn't give him an address, but if he got my cell I am sure they have my address.  www.kidfirst.org

I got a call from this company/organization in the middle of my class and found it very inappropriate.  I use my cell phone for important things - not to be solicited.

Interestingly, this call sounded very much like everyone else here EXCEPT that the person on the phone wasn't a person.  The voice on the other end was automated (granted, pretty sophisticated compared to what I'm used to hearing).  Surprised to find that others talked to a live human.

A man told me "this is not a sales call". He asked me if he could I would answer questions about reviewing a new movie. Claimed it would take 30 seconds.  I agreed, said "O.K.".  He hung up  Very strange call. I'm glad to know the company seems legit and there ais a forum to find it out.

Got this call on my cellphone and I ignored it as I didn't recognize the area code.  Figured I'd let vmail pick it up--no message left.  After reading this, I'm glad I didn't answer.  When you pay for minutes, it's ashame to get solicitation calls on cell phones.

Been receiving calls from the number a couple of times lately. I've not answered once, and they've not left messages. But I wanted to point out again what someone else pointed out. All of the posts on the first page, are FAKE. They were all posted the same day, isn't that strange?? How can we report this to whocallsme.com? Any company that posts fake messages on here is obviously trying to cover up something. WHAT A SCAM!!!

    Whatever
I read through these forums and all I see is "do not call list", "DNC" etc. . .you people are intelligent enough to google your way here - why not follow through and do a little extra research?! Here's the skinny for those of you too lazy or dumb to figure it out: This number is registered to a company called Kids First. (kidsfirst.org) Seems like "John" is the one making all the calls. (may or may not be one person.) They're probably calling you about the movie "The Velveteen Rabbit." (www.velveteenmovie.com) They are NOT in violation of the Do Not Call registry, because they are a 501-c-3 charity. It may be annoying that they have called your cell phone, but you can always HANG UP. If you want them to stop calling you, remove yourself from their list HERE: http://www.kidsfirstcares.org/ In the future, educate yourselves before venting into the air about rights you don't have.

I've read these forums and I have to agreed that most of the first posts are fake.  I have received the call on my cell-phone 3 times in the last 48 hours, both at times that, if I was a working parent, would have been inappropriate.  One would have been during the work day when most parents don't take personal calls except from their child's daycare/school.  The other two times have been around 8pm local time, which is when I would be putting kids to bed, if I was a parent.  All three times they've called me, they have hung up within moments of me answering the phone.  A legit company would not be hanging up like this and would be actually identifying themselves.  I have worked both in outbound research calling and in an in-bound call center that calls customers back.  In every instance, we either wait for an answering machine to pick and leave a message (if doing a callback) or don't hang up until the answering machine picks up and we can recognize that it is an answering machine.  If a real person picked up, we talk to them..that is how a call center works.

I also tried calling the number back and, after, 4 rings, I got an answering machine, not an IVR, but an answering machine designed to make you think that somebody had picked up the phone.  I could tell by how the "person" didn't respond to anything that I said.

same person going on about velveteen rabbit. don't know if it was automated or not. I'm curious if they got my number somehow through fandango.  Anyway, here's a phone number to COALITION FOR QUALITY CHILDREN'S MEDIA if you'd like to give them a call back :)  (found a tax statement online)  When I tried the number a machine just picked up. I informed them a class action lawsuit was in the works for their company. Their number : 505-989-8076

    not a fan!
I received a call from this number to my unpublished cell phone number. The caller claimed attempted to entice me to go see a new movie being released: The Velveteen Rabbit. The caller wanted permission to send me a text message or email.  If anything, this kind of unsolicited telemarketing makes me want to boycott the movie!

Good cause or not, this is very bad practice.  I intend to report this incident to the FTC and encourage everyone else who finds this page to do the same thing.

You can contact all their sponsors at their website at kidsfirst.org and let them know about the way they call folks. But more importantly you should file a complaint with the Attorney General's Office in New Mexico where they are headquartered and with your own State Attorney General's Office. Washington State is already looking into this. Some key points here is that they don't identify who they are with, they call from all parts of the nation with different area codes. They must be using telemarketers and some states have a problem with automatic dialers and telemarketers. John the guy who calls is a pre-recorded message. The VP of Kidsfirst says that someone listens in the conversation and pushes buttons for responses to your questions. Very odd and it may really be voice activated for all we know. They pretend to be getting reviews but actually they are a marketing arm for movie distributors with the intent to sell you the movie you review much like a try it out before you buy. With their non profit status they are avoiding having to go by federal regulations of the Do Not Call registry. Are they paying their fair share of taxes if in fact they are really telemarketers under the non-profit vail?

Seems like the people at Kids First come here and post until the negatives on the first page. Either that or there are a lot of gullible people in the world.

This is a scam, do not answer, do not give out your information, do not accept movies. Look this place up on other sites on the net. Don't just Google them and go to their site!

    Annoyed in New York!
I have received FOUR phone calls on my cell phone from these people. Never once answered, and rejected all calls. I told my husband about it today only to be told he was ALSO getting those calls on HIS cell phone. I don't care where these people are based or what they want -- you DON'T call cell phones for telemarketing or solicitations! It's definitely not local -- we live in New York, and our cell phone numbers are North Carolina numbers. Supposedly these people are somewhere out west and calling from a Massachusetts line. Ridiculous. I hope no one is REALLY giving them info about themselves.
