THIS IS A VALID AMERICAN EXPRESS NUMBER

I receive text messages from American Express trying to collect on an account but I do not
have an account with them.

This is a new scam.

I spoke with "Frank" and, I have to say, I am pretty sophisticated with this crap, and he sounded as real as they come.  Like others, he told me to google the AMEX web site and see that the number is real (which, of course, it is, since it is spoofed).  I asked him to provide me more information, and he would not (but he was polite and calm).
Be REALLY CAREFUL with this.

American Express (AMEX) customer service returning a requested callback regarding account application and existing account servicing. NOT a debt collection and NOT spam.

This is a SCAM. They claim to be American Express. They are not. I called Amex Cust. Service number, and this number, among others associated with their calls to me (numbers they told me to call), is not in the official Amex directory. It has been flagged with Amex as of yesterday.

Received phone call, declined the call, left no message

Woman calling from this number left a voicemail identifying me by name.  She claimed to be from Amex high risk division calling to confirm if I had applied for an Amex card. Asked me to call 800-450-8738 which is NOT an Amex number. Scam

Woman calling from this number looking for my wife.  She claimed to be from Amex high risk division calling to confirm if I had applied for an Amex card. Asked me to call 888-548-7878 which is NOT an Amex number. Scam

Asked for me by my full name, claimed to be AMEX, referenced a recent payment on my biz card made from Wells Fargo and cited the ending of my WF bank account (maybe... Couldn't hear with the accent). I just said I will call AMEX back as I'm not giving any account info on an incoming call. Wish I'd seen this page first... Would have had some fun.

Total scam. Started asking questions, but told him i would make a payment online. Never give information on the phone to strangers. These scammers trying to go fishing for info. I hate scammers. Get a job losers.

Left a voicemail, attempting to warn me of someone opening a card with (insert wrong name). I called to verify they understood it was the wrong person, though I gave no personal information. They were frustrated that I wouldn't tell them who I was, my phone number or any other information that they should have already via 'reference' number provided.

800-450-8738 was the 800 number they redirected from, 623-492-4206 is the number in which they called from.

I get these calls at least twice a day

The called, saying I owe American Express. They called me Eric - not my name & I don't have AMEX

She said was from AMEX. Only said my name initial and last name as shown on the card. Said my credit card was compromised (identity stolen) and they were going to send me a document by email to be fill out and Notarized. When I told her that didn’t believe it she said to call the AMEX number on the back of my card and hang up. SCAM!!!

Said they were calling due to a 'security concern' and to call 'the number on the back of my card'. Mentioned my full name.  Never received and email or a msg through the portal that there was any security issue,  this is most likely a scam.

Said they were from American Express. I called American Express. This is a scam, Amex has no numbers associated with this.

They called and are looking for someone that is NOT ME. Not even close to my real name. Argumentative over the phone and very pushy telling me I was lying.

I called American Express customer line and ask if this is their number. They said there is no such number.  TOTAL SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
