We have just discovered that our son has been receiving these texts from this number for at least a month. He has not realised this and have just checked that at £1.50 a time it has cost him £15 in the last 2 weeks. He's also with Virgin mobile. I have rung this number and it answers as South Staffordshire Council Voters Registration Line.

He has also been texted by 700034062, also at £1.50 a time, which answers as Liverpool Council Voters Registration Line.

    Business user
    Hi.

I look after the phone contract for a large company. I have just phoned T-Mobile about this number appearing on one of our users bills. They said it's a "Zingtones" subscription, and that the user will have downloaded 1 tone, which signed them up to this service. Phone Zingtones on 08452251808, and they will stop the charges.

www.TextPlayWin.com is a fraudulent website which introduces " Win an iphone 5 " amongst other great sounding bogus competitions on the web, the most recent being  used to head-up Google's search site page.
If you are tricked into participating in these competitions you have to divulge your mobile number and provider.
Immediately you receive texts which are charged at £1.50 each to your account by some clever online link method.
T-Mobile has received hundreds of complaints and is investigating, but other mobile providers are affected too.
However you view this,it is my opinion that providers are not protecting their customers from this fraud and because it potentially affects thousands of users it should be a major concern for the companies to secure their networks against this abuse by organised criminal gangs.
TextPlayWin has changed ownership according to Whois at least 6 times in recent years.

i work for a mobile phone provider in the uk and i will just say the only way to avoid these charges coming through ever is by requesting as soon as your mobile phone contract is active you call your network and request premium rate service bar. if for whatever reason these companies do get your number and you dont have premium rate services barred the responsibility is on the user for allowing their number to get into the hands of these companies. the charges do not come from your network provider and should not be refunded by the network. if any money is incorrectly charged you need to chase the premium company for a refund.

they are not "organised criminal gangs" they are businesses. im not defending what they do or their charges but if you really think your mobile network provider are the ones that should stop this happening maybe you should have your mobile phone taken away as you're clearly not responsible enough to have one, after all the only way they got your number is by YOU putting it somewhere that they can get it and by YOU agreeing to the terms and conditions of wherever it was that YOU input it to let them either sell it on or use it themselves.

I am completely fed up of receiving unsolicited text messages from this number. I now have charges in the region of £40.00 for something I have not asked for. I have contacted EE and a complaint no given to me by EE. I am now going to contact the police about this fraud
