Calling my prepaid phone cell, do not know why calling fromlas vegas.

I keep getting annoying calls from this number.  Usually during work.

Well, me too.  Started a few weeks ago.  I pressed 9 to remove my name from the list (I should know better, this just confirms to them that they got a live number...sigh).  I pressed 1 today and started to tell the agent, but she hung up immediately.  I called back to that number and got a 'number not in service' message (not the official message with the three beeps, but a clearly tricked-up message from the scammers).

Anyway, I filed an FCC complaint.  Please have at it, folks:

These people have been calling our buisness lines and our cell phones.  They use this number and also 1489, 1323,1478,1471,1462.  Some show First National Bank.  Others are Gas companies.  They use different names but all are running the same scam.  Problem is, we are police officers.  They do not even realize they are calling a police department and talking to Detectives that work harassment cases.  I am not advocating that anyone doing anything with this information, just putting it out there as a public service.  So, having said that here is what I have found out about these people:

I got the call too. They were rude and never would identify the company that they were representing. This started after we purchased a car from CarMax.  I am wondering if there is a link here.  If there is then perhaps it is time to contact CarMax and let them know that we did not want our phone numbers sold to some outside service.

They call me on my cell phone every day.  I called the numbers.  They are either busy or it goes to a recorded message.  The caller ID varies.  I have seen all these:

Several years ago a friend of mine purchased an extended auto warranty (for $800) and he could never get anything done when he tried to use it.

I received a call from this number on my cell phone on 6/20/2008 about an expiring vehicle warranty. It was described as a "second notice", making it sound like a legal warning actually. I feel sorry for businesses with such marketing techniques. What can consumers do to avoid spam like this?

To Jim the police officer that posted all the info about these scammers - THANK YOU! I intend to use this info to file a complaint online with the FCC.

If anyone knows of what else can be done, like who else to contact to get some actual action taken against these people, please post. It seems filing complaints does nothing, while these bottom-feeders get away with their harassment.
