    According to what I just read on the FTC home page, telemarketers can access your area codes for a fee. If your number is on the Do not Call list for that area code they are not supposed to call you. But once they have your number what's to stop them from calling you anyway. They know727 then that this is a good number.
    Tell them just a minute please and put the phone down and don't return. When you hear the busy signal you know they've hung up.

    Hey all. I've received calls from 727-565-1371 over and over and finally had a real person on today.  I played along with them to get information to pass it on.  The company is Vacation Promotions, 6014 US Hwy 9 or 19 North (bad hand writing), Suite 100, New Port Richey, FL 34652. I asked for a phone number in case I got cut off and they gave me their customer support number - 888-808-1814. How this help some of you.

    I received several (and when I say several...I mean like 2 and 3 times a day, everyday)calls from this # 727-565-1371.  I have not answered them because they are on my cell and this number is not familiar to me so I don't answer those kind.  How do I get them to stop calling my cell?

    They are calling my home phone and cell phone multiple times a day at the same time. As with others listed they leave no message and if you call the number it goes to voice mail.  Also if you ask to speak to a supervisor they will hang up on you!

    I got a call from 727.565.1371 at 2:30 this afternoon. There was heavy breathing. I asked who it was. More heavy breathing. Then they said,"Don't you know who this is?"  I did not.  They hung up. I dialed *69 and got the number. I called it and got a message saying get your phone service at freedigit.com.  I went to the site and it is for phone service. I am not going to get my phone service switched to them though, they have perverts working for them! I hope they don't call me back.

    Forget complaining to the do not call list people- the are a toothless paper tiger - even their own website admits that they do nothing except catalog the complaints (in an "Indiana Jones" type archive - you know the kind, lost in an obscure warehouse never to be seen again).  I've even tried to complain to my congressional representatives and even THEY don't want to be bothered!  I filed a formal complaint with the FCC and all I ever got was a letter acknowledging my complaint.

    Try this.  The SIT tones will usually send telemarketers and charities packing - Those are the tones the Phone Companies play when you reach a disconnected number.  You can get a mess of those messages at
    http://payphone-directory.org/sounds.html

    I down loaded and then opened one using a computer headset and "snd recorder" (C:\WINDOWS\system32\sndrec32.exe) and edited it to put on my answering machine.  My machine picks up and you hear the tones, followed by the familiar (in my voice) "The number you have reached - [insert your number here, imitate the way the phone company people say it] is not attended or does not recognize your caller ID.  Please wait for the tone and leave a message." - - Family and friends know that you'll pickup when you recognize their number, or they'll leave a message if you're not home - but autodialers will remove your number from their data base.

    SO, to recap;
    Step One: Down load any recording with the S.I.T. tones
    Step two:  Use that recording - or a modification of it AFTER the S.I.T. tones - as your answering machine "greeting".
    Step three: If you can, set your machine to answer on the first ring - or if possible, even before the phone rings (some machines have that ability - - especially those associated with a fax machine auto-answer device).
    Step 4: Tell your friends and other legitimate callers that you'll pick up when you see their caller id if you are home and to leave a message if you don't.
    Step 5: If the calls from the same number persist - now this may be as illegal as the nussiance callers, but if the FCC won't prosecute THEM, why would they mess with YOU? - Program the fax capability of YOUR COMPUTER to repeatedly call the offending number over and over again - just set the time-out feature for something like 5 or 10 seconds so they don't have time to answer before youy computer hangs up and redials. That way you won't be charged for the call if it's long distance (charges start AFTER they answer) and you will tie up their line so badly that they won't be able to call out and pester someone ELSE!  Of course, that will also tie up YOUR line, but you can shut it down any time you like.  So, maybe let it run all day while you are at work - some systems allow you to preset the number of tries before it gives up - pick a number that represents the length time you'd like to annoy THEM.

    Finally, if they DO answer, all they will get are fax tones from your computer - if you put a real message on the system, they may have a fax machine answering system too - use that to send a fax telling them to stop pestering you.

    A more rewarding possibility exists, but I don't remember how it works - an attorney may be able to help - but I read somewhere that someone turned the tables on these folks by suing them in court.  Someone out there, somewhere,can possibly make a good living suing these people.  There are lawyers who make a living just suing miscreant bill collectors, so why not miscrant telemarketers?  WHICH brings up the idea that if it IS a bill collector harrasing you, call one of those lawyers!
