A woman from this number (757) 716- 7196 called saying her name was Sofia. She was looking for my sister and said it was important that she call back her office. She left a call back number of (877) 394-0396. I ask her what is this about but, she just hang up…very rude!

I too also received a call from this same number. When they tried to verify the last 4 digits of my social it was incorrect. I was put on hold, the lady came back on the line and claimed that she was trying to collect a debt. She asked me my name and I told her my first name, then she tried to say my last name was something else, I told her that wasn't my last name and that the last for digits of my SSN  that she gave me were incorrect. She seemed not to believe me by her response, "I think you are so-n-so and I believe the last 4 digits of your SSN are ****."

Got a call this morning with a message I must call back. Called back they wanted me to verify my last 4 digits of social. When I would not confirm are deny without knowing who they were they got very rude & loud & said have repenstation call them back. They never would give me any information on who are what it was about. Reporting it now to attorney general.

This company is an illegal collector. DO NOT talk to them.

I got a call just like the rest of you from the rude lady at this number. Afterward, I looked it up and saw that it is a scam. Luckily, I did not give out any information simply bc I was confused about who they were. I will let her have a piece of my mind if that btch wants to call back.

it is a collection agency that is using scare tactics which are illegal!!! to collect on outdated paypay loans from over 6 years ago.  the gentle man I had the pleasure ( thats a joke0 was a rude SOB and threatened me telling me that I had 12 hours to get him the money or I was going to be prosecuted... that is illegal... also, his name was Maurice Parker and a lady was the cover for him... DONT PAY THEM!!!! they are scam artist who have paid pennies on the dollar for you bad debt !!

A guy called me trying to find someone and gave the last four numbers of a social security number and said this was the last number they had for the person.  Was I the person, no. He went on and on to see if I was related to the person.  I hung up and checked to see what/who was calling.

If they are not supposed to be operating according to a lawsuit and the business is in the process of "winding down" and in Receivership...they are still operating!  The last information was from early December, and there is nothing shown that they are allowed to make calls, quite the opposite.

The URL's given above provide the information about the lawsuit and them being in receivership. Hopefully, the law is watching this website to see they are still working and trying to contact people, unlawfully, as of this date.

Just received a call from this number purporting to relate to a debt, after assuring the caller that I do not do business of the phone and they could send me a letter or come visit me as all the rest of my customers do, the reply was" I need to verify your SSAN. Are you going to give it to me or not?" Needless to say I hung up the phone....what a bunch of idiots...

I did not answer, and they did not leave a message.

I got a phone call from a girl just after 8am, saying she has paperwork and asking if I am ___  ___ with the last four of my social being XXXX.  My response was "Uh, ok...." like confused.  She put me on hold and came back on with her boss,  Mr. Shapiro claiming he is "attempting to collect a debt" from 2004.  He restated my social security number, asked me about all of my previous addresses, which he already had, and told me that he can give me any information about the place that I supposedly owed including my old bank account information, address of the store, and listed off the place where the debt supposedly came from....First of all, how does he have ALL of my previous addresses?  He shouldn't be looking at my credit information even if they are debt collectors, they do not need to look at my credit file, just the file they have bought.  Next flag would be that when I asked to mail a money order they said they do not do that, that it must be an ACH transaction.  Next big flag was that, they are calling my cell phone number...how did they even get that?  And to top it off, a week or two ago my husband got a similar phone call from a different number, saying they were a different company trying to collect on an old payday loan from the exact same company that this place claimed to be trying to collect for.  I called the FTC and filed a claim after seeing many of these posts.  The post included below is one that I found particularly helpful and I am going to add the information I have to this list below.

This is from a bottom feeding Debt Collector - Consumer Recovery Associates. All you have to do to stop the harrassing calls is tell them: "Don't ever call me again, or I will report you to the FDCPA".

If they call you, they have illegally tapped into your credit file in hopes of collecting debt that is beyond the SOL (statute of limitations) for collecting. DO NOT OFFER ANY PERSONAL INFO like your social security # or banking info.

Just got another phone call back from Mr. Shapiro.  I didn't answer, I let it go to voicemail.  He is saying I need to call him back immediately...however  the first time I got a phone call it was from 757-716-7193 and the girl had called me and transferred me to him, then he gave a call-back number of 877-394-0396 ext 2013, and this phone call came up as 757-716-7197....Interesting....If you call from the same office phone number everytime you call a client I am positive that the number should show up on caller ID the same way every single time you call someone....unless it's a scam......
