Keep getting calls from this number.  They do not leave a message.  My room-mate picked it up once and it started to 'ring back'.  I picked it up just now, and it went dead.  I *think* it's for me, because I *do* have a debt that was written off to a collection agency, however as a point of order I have NOT recieved a letter from the agency that took it over saying they took it over (they HAVE to do that before they start calling!)

I'm not unwilling to start paying off this debt (I was unemployed when I defaulted on my credit card, but now things are a little more stable.)  However repeated calls with no message left and no one on the other end when picked up are just ridiculous.

My friendly and sincere advice to you Justin, is if you wish to clear the debt, then just contact the original creditor, and ask them if they would be willing to accept payments to settle the debt.
Don't give a cent to the collection agency.  The more people refuse to pay collection agencies the sooner they will go out of business.  If people wouldn't pay collection agencies, there wouldn't be so many of them!  Anyone and their dog can set-up a collection agency business.

You could always tell them to sue you, or f**k off.  And then they either have to start litigation to sue you or they have to f**k off.  Once you play this cart, the collection agency is stuck with the debt, they can not pass-on the debt to another collection agency and they can no longer contact you by any method, because in doing so places them in Contempt of Court.  Judges do not like it when someone is in contempt of court, or when someone places someone else into contempt of court.  This makes judges very angry, and they usually dismiss the case.

If the original creditor doesn't want you to pay them, then wait for the collection agency to take you to court, and let the judge know the original creditor refused to settle.

People who work for collection agencies are usually ex-convicts, schoolyard bullies or women who can't get a date.

I no longer answer my land-line unless I recognize the calling party's number, I let my answering machine
    pick-up the incoming calls.
My outgoing message to all calling parties is a continuous recording of the Jeopardy theme tune, which I
    found on YouTube!!!

Just so everyone knows, & this will-[***] the collection agents: by Federal Law, a collection agency has the power to "Ask You to pay your bill and offer assistance in setting up a payment schedule" That is all.

    1) they are never allowed to call you at your place of employment for any reason.
    2) they can not, under any circumstances, harrass you into payment, by phone, mail or in person & they may not threaten you or your credit standing in any way.
    3) You do not have to deal with a collection agency at any time. You are only obligated to deal with the original creditor, even if the agency has bought the account from them. You do not have to deal with them. 4) a collection agency can not put negative information on your credit file.
    5) so in short... all they can do is "nicely" ask you to pay your bill. But we all know that they generally go way beyond that.

If you are having a problem with an agency, call the consumer bureau and report them and if it is a serious harassment issue, or call at your place of employment, contact the police and file charges. These are federal laws that they must follow, but most offen do not and will push it to the limit. Yes, several collectors have been fired and / or charged under these laws. Some even jailed. Their employers usually get a fine & tell the authorities they never asked the employee to do that, thus leaving the employee on their own to take the blame. True sharks in every way.
If you are having financial issues, & most people do at one point or another in their lives, call a credit counselling service in your area. They are a free service in every province and will assist you. Do not deal with collectors on your own. If you can not afford to pay, the service will understand & work with you, without any judgement toward you, and no credit bruising. The calls stop immediately.

I owe a little over two hundred dollars to BC Hydro and get calls from the above number. I am a senior and cannot afford to pay the bill at this time and informed the caller of my lack of funds. They now call at least 5 times a day. I do not answer as there are no futher developments in my situation. I have COPD and find it difficult to deal with the stress. I can't afford my medication never mind the bill. I explained that if my finances change I will pay. They just do not listen.

These guys just don't stop... I was literally seeing a professional due to serious suicidal thoughts.  Hurt my back, had no insurance, basically went broke and still have not gone back to work from the surgery I was lucky enough to get in a speedy time.  My sickness benefits from the government run out before i am allowed back to work, and obviously stress is a large part of my life again.  Rent, car insurance, bills, how do I pay that.... Anyway long story short, it has been explained to them, and i went as far to say i will end my life over the phone if they keep calling me 6 times a day every single day.  They still haven't stopped!!  I'm lucky enough to have some family helping me and a someone to talk to about my suicidal thoughts, but I am sure there are ppl out there who don't have that support.  These people need to be stopped, and I need these calls stopped, no one is on the other end of the phone when i pick up now.  So i cant even yell at anyone on the other end.  I'm broke, stressed, and unable to change it at the moment.
    Un-needed stress!!

They just phoned my number.  I didn't pick up because I didn't recognize the number and they didn't leave a message.  Other posters say it's a collection agency.  I've had my number for 2 years so it's unlikely they are calling someone who had it before me and I don't have any debt so it must be a scam.

We have notified the RCMP about this agency - They keep calling for someone who is not at our number - They call 10 times a day, and we have asked them to STOP CALLING

They are now in the area of illegal harassment, and the RCMP are asking people to notify them about this company.  More people, the better!  Please contact your local RCMP department or online to file a complaint.

More people that file we can get them shut down and charged.

Just ignore them they will stop. After awhile like a year or more if they call and you answer and they talk to you, don't acknowledge the debt. Just say I don't recall that debt no. You must have the wrong person. Then they will get pissed and read off all the details and such. When they are done say again, no I don't recall that you must be mistaken. Then end the call while the dork on the other end squawks. Got this info from an ex debt collector

I am receiving hang-up calls from this number. They stay on the line silently and then so do I and I wait until they finally hang-up. They also call at an early morning hour.

I've answered a couple of times, but there's been no one on the other end.  I get calls 5-6 times a day, including at almost 10pm.  Would like them to stop, but there's never anyone on the line to ask...

They called me and said they were a collection agency and  I owed them 100.00 to Enbridge gas. They asked for last 3 # of my social insurance. I called Enbridge when I hung up from them, I knew I was current with my bill, and told them of the call I just received. Said they NEVER ask for social insurance #. Flash ahead a few months I get a collection letter from them for 100.00. Called Enbridge again about it. They say I owe NOTHING!!!! They are investigating them. SCAMMERS!!!!
