- BC ResidentToday, just after 2 PM Pacific, multiple calls from a scammer, claiming to represent TELUS, offering me a $20/month discount on Telus Internet, and a $5/month discount on Telus Mobility, locked-in for a two-year term. Unfortunately for the scammer, I have Rogers Internet & Rogers Mobility. The first scammer claimed to be named "Gary Smith", and had an accent that seemed to be from India/Pakistan. He referred me to his "supervisor" named "Christopher Eric".
They also called me from "250-555-8109". Note that the "555" exchange is "reserved" -- often heard on television shows, when a "known bad" telephone number is part of the show's plot needs a number. So, "spoofed" Caller-ID information.
I did a Google-search for this telephone-number, and found a long thread on Reddit's "r/telus" forum, where many people associated this telephone-number with scammers.
Despite the "780" (Edmonton) area-code, the scammers said that they were in Vancouver.
When they first called, and said they were from Telus, I (falsely) said that I had been waiting for an hour for "Telus Support" to call me back. I said that my WiFi-connected TV had gone dark, and I wanted them to trouble-shoot (this non-existent issue). I thanked them for calling me back (even though that was not the case -- my TV reception is 100% good).- Caller: definitely NOT Telus
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- BC ResidentToday, three more calls from this same scammer.
I did not pick up any of them.
Take the hint: I do not want to switch from Rogers/Shaw, because YOU ARE NOT TELUS.- Caller: Not Telus
- Call type: Scam suspicion
