I  just  got a call on my cell phone and when I answered, the lady spoke in Spanish.  I replied ich sprechen nicht spanian. That is German for I do not speak Spanish.  She paused then I didn't hear anymore.  That phrase works great.

Make sure you check your cell phone bill there maybe a charge on it.  My fox Tampa bay had a special on it saying that when you call the number back they put a charge on your cell phone  bill.

Make sure you check your phone statement for ridiculous charges. There's a knew scam called the "One-ring" scam which compell people to call back, and calling them back can rack up huge charges for you. Same number called me today, answered it and heard a loud beep. Hung up after that.

Another random number I didn't answer. I've been getting quite a few lately so I just add them to my spam phone contact list in my cell phone with a silent ring. Never bothers me and just delete when I see it in my call log.

I just got a call from this number at 10:35pm on a Friday night! My cell phone showed it was Florida and it is not a number I recognize so did not answer it; No message was left.  I then did a reverse look up and found the above comments about others being called by a telemarketer. I guess the best thing to do is to block the number from further calls.

    786-204-4358 scam

From credit card fraud to phone scams. There's a new one to warn you about this morning. It's called the "one ring scam." And crooks don't even need your credit card information to steal your money. They're buying or stealing lists of US cell phone numbers and then using computers to mass dial. Your cell phone will ring quickly, maybe even one ring, just long enough to generate a missed call on your phone. The con artists hope you are curious enough to call the number back to see who it was, and if you do, the scammers charge your phone bill like a 900 number- 20 dollars for the call,, and another 9 dollars for every minute you spend on the line with them. The Better Business Bureau says this scam is more effective than others, because it raises no red flags.

"There is no one trying to sell you anything. There is no one sending the wrong type of message or who has a foreign accent or doesn't speak very well. All of those things that we look for are absent," said Aaron Reese, BBB Spokesman

Consumers who have been duped by these calls report they are coming from the Caribbean Islands-Jamaica, Antigua, the British Virgin Islands. The area codes may be 268, 809, 876, 284, and 473. If you think you might have been a victim of this scam, immediately call your cell phone carrier to document the fraud. The quicker you do that, the better chance you'll have of having some or all of the charges removed. The Better Business Bureau says the safest thing to do if your phone rings, and it's a number you don't recognize, don't answer it, and do not call it back. Pretty much everyone has voicemail, and if the caller has something really important to say, they will leave a message identifying themselves. If you don't know anyone in the islands, then likely it's a scam.

News warned the public NOT to call back.  You will be charged $20. To$40. Per call you make to them.

They called me at 10:39am on 02/04/14. Discovered it's a land line in Southeast-ojus Eaea, FL (Miami, Dade). While this is in the US, the rule of thumb is to **NEVER** call them back as you could incur 'ring and run' charges.  If it's important, and legitimate, the caller will call you back.

This appears to be reoccurring scam where criminals target people simply by calling them and allowing it to ring long enough to answer, then hang up. Our curiosity will get the better of us and we call them back determined to know who is was, was it important, and why they were so rude to hang up.  Then when we get our phone bill, discover that we've been charged fees, sometimes less than $20, but other times in the hundreds... all because you called them back.
