PNC credit card - verifying purchase activity - security related.  My credit card had just been declined because there was some suspicious activity the day prior. When I confirmed the transaction to be suspicious they canceled my card and sent me a new one.

I called the number on the back of my card for PNC Visa, they transferred me over to security and the number ( 1-800-225-5618 ) is one of their  security numbers. They asked if I had made a few purchases and when I verified them they said it was just a security check and everything was ok.

This is not a scam.  This is actually PNC calling to confirm if you made certain recent charges on your card.  They call me frequently as I have had problems in the past with bogus charges.  They do not ask for complete information or anything that would compromise your account.  It is a good service provided by PNC to protect their customers.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.  There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

This is not a scam, it's PNC Bank calling me to verify recent charges on my credit card.  They just want to make sure that I am the one who made the purchases and not someone else.

I received a call from 1-800-225-5618 saying PNC Bank had a problem with my Credit card. I called the number on the back of my credit card and was told they called as I had two charges from the same business on my account the day before and one was cancelled. It was legitimate as I entered the wrong information once and that charge was cancelled. They had locked my account and reopened it for me. Good to know someone is watching over me.

Being very cautious with this type of thing, and since there were so many conflicting answers about this 1-800 # on this website, I was forced to contact PNC using the # on the back of my card. I had made two purchases late last night, and one was fairly expensive, so they were just verifying it was me.  The customer service rep made few clicks to reset everything and I was good to go!  I had even received an email from one of the purchase sites by that time indicating my card was not accepted and when I re-verified my card info, it was already corrected on their end!  So whatever PNC did worked and worked quickly!

I purchased airline tickets from an overseas vendor.

PNC security had called from 800-225-5618. I didn't answer, but called my local branch first and they verified that it was a legit number. Then, I called 800-225-5618 back to the automated system to verify those purchases using my new credit card.

I'm happy they did so...looking out for me and them.

Then why don't they leave a message if it is REAL??

Everyone keeps saying it is real but I am NOT getting a call from 800-225-5618 it is 569-225-5618!!!

Older posts say this is not a scam, and that it is PNC Bank. If this is the case, the number has been spoofed. It was a Chinese robo-call.

Seems to be a scam parading as PNC. I called the number on the back of my card to ensure I would be connected to a legitimate representative. She said there were no activity flags on my account, and no reason for them to call me.

Someone who was speaking in, what I think, was some Asian language.  I hung up after listening for about 30 seconds.

Caller left voicemail, claiming to be PNC VISA fraud check. The message identified me by name, asked me to call back. I checked with PNC Bank (via mobile app), which confirmed that's a legitimate PNC phone number.
