- BTW replies to COLLECTOR 1With that much vitriol, I don't think you're anyone who I'd like to talk to.
As it happens I did listen and I did tell them that the debt they were calling about was NOT mine. It made no difference. They are still calling.
BTW, all caps on the internet equals screaming. Who's paying you while you're screaming on the web? - Lying Scum replies to NWMaybe the "debtor" just has the same name and maybe, just maybe, it would be a waste of time to harass them, especially with your company's track record of being sued in court for large sums. It must be pretty miserable going through life thinking everyone is lying to you and that if they aren't, then they're "debtors" and therefore scum. What a choice to make every day: liar or scum. You can have that one, pal. I hope they are paying you enough to pollute your mind and spirit every work day.
The last time I was in school was 1971 in Singapore and my Dad was paying the bills, so I seriously doubt I have an outstanding $38,000 student loan that I never heard of until now. - Red Hen replies to FloridaLadyGood for you!
- Rufus Schneider replies to COLLECTOR 1Dear Collector
While I can understand your point of view - which respectfully didn't need capital letters as you've weakened the content of your message & now come across like an arrogant [***] - I'm a European immigrant to the USA (all legal, paperwork all concluded). I've owned my brand spanky new cell phone for literally 4-months. In that period I've received numerous calls from 3 different Collection Agencies who all are trying to get in touch with people I've never met of heard of before.
The problem here is that I have no financial problems, I've not accrued any debt & have no plans to, so in my case the Collection Agencies are calling for the person/people who previously had my cell phone number.
I've never been asked to provide any personal details, & I never, ever give my name. I simply say, "Sorry, but that person does not own this cell phone, I cannot help you," & the caller is usually quick to end the call & move on to more successful leads.
Some of you Collection Agencies are polite about it, & assure me you'll remove my number from your database - which you never do & the calls just keep coming. Let's face it, in the world of debt collection time is money, & who has the time to do something as time-consuming as correcting a database - sometimes it's a recorded message that I have no option but to cut off.
While I know that people working for Collection Agencies are micromanaged heavily by their bosses, are targeted on achieving a certain amount of calls p/hour & experience a huge turnover of staff who are unable to handle the pressure or stress, as someone who should not be called by Collection Agencies but repeatedly is my situation doesn't deserve your attitude.
If you are being plagued by Collection calls, DO NOT tell the collector that the person died or imply that you know them in any way because it will be a BIG problem as the calls will actually increase as the Agency now need to put that person's account in the file to find them/confirm death/relocation.
If you, like me, are being contacted by Collection Agencies chasing someone else, the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act extend to you, not just the person who owes the debt. If the collector is calling about a debt that belongs to someone else, I as the person receiving the calls can sue for actual damages, statutory damages & any attorney’s fees that may accrue.
If you are being called with prerecorded messages, you can sue them for $500.00 p/call, provided that they've called you more than once in a year under the Telephone Consumers Protection Act (TCPA) 1992.
A less time-consuming course of action would be to ask the debt collector for the company’s fax number or email address & if the calls don’t stop, you can email or fax the collector the first page of their phone bill to show the phone number the Collector just called, & that the name of the person on the bill is clearly not the debtor.
If however you ARE the Debtor being chased for an outstanding amount, quit being such a leech on the system & have a conversation with the Collection Agency in order to come to some arrangement. The debt is now sitting with a Collection Agency because you've been avoiding everyone, not taking calls, not responding to letters or emails, trying to make your situation go away by pretending it doesn't exist. Stop being so childish! You owe money that you had no problem spending at the time, & now that the Collection Agency have purchased the debt from whichever company you originally took the money from, it's in their financial interests to get it back. If that means calling you every hour of every day, then so be it. If hassling you & making your life difficult will motivate you to stop running then it's a good thing. Remember, you got yourself into this situation, so man up & face your responsibilities. - Wrong number replies to COLLECTOR 1Great attitude, now try it on someone who actually owes a debt, idiot. Calling someone repeatedly will not magically turn them into the person you're looking for. Ever.
- Blue Sky replies to NWTried that, didn't work. They may say they won't call, but it starts up again. They finally left a message that I was going to be served (for a loan I never had). Finally they left a message that I would be served a summons. The processor called a couple of days later and thank god had a clearer head. They're looking for someone with my same first and last name (the middle initial is different), in southern CA (I live in northern CA), for a student loan (I left school in the 70's), at an address that sounded like LA. We don't get streets numbered over 100 here--not enough population.
I told them ALL of this when they called, didn't make any difference. I guess harassing me i so much more fun that actually doing their job. Thank goodness the process called--he's probably been on a lot of wild goose chases, plus I believe getting a judgement against the wrong person will likely end in a law suit. All those friends who are attorneys would have come in handy. I don't know why there is no class action suit against these guys already. I think I'll suggest one. - Cheryl replies to COLLECTOR 1I have listened to the people on the phone and have explained I am unemployed and having serious heart and health problems but they don't want to hear that, they tell me to have another relative pay my bill then and they call all my family members and threaten them. I am not able to qualify for disability yet and cannot work and they don't care, they just want money. You cannot reason with them in any way shape or form. I keep telling them I can't even buy my meds and they say well how about sending in this amount of money, are you listening? I am sick, I am scared about what is wrong with me and you are making it worse with houdning me with something I cannot do anything about right now. You are adding to my overall health problems by adding stress. People get loans and go to school with all intentions of paying it back when they get a good job from the training they received. They do not plan on getting serious health problems and not being able to work at all. No one plans this or foresees it, but it happens. So do I think also that you are a scumbag, yes, because you treat even those of us who are ill like [***]. You may be being paid for what you do but you chose this job and Karma is a heck of a thing.
- Ipaymydebts replies to Penny31Maybe people should only buy what they have cash to pay with ... Living within their means.

- Caller: GEN REV GRP
- James replies to timI received a couple of calls for a person who used to live at the address where I now live. They just ask for the person then provide a reference number. Not sure how else to convince them that she doesn't live there anymore. They are probably used to that line so they are suspicious.
- CPhone rang thought it was another co, just said hello, Caller asked for John Grisley and asked that I press #1 and there may be a slight delay, I just hung up since I am not this person and have never heard of this person. Number showed up as "Toll Free Calle" and just the phone number as above. This come over landline not cell.
- Caller: male voice I didn't ask for name
- matt replies to Brunothey never take your name off the list. they just assign another person to call you
- WhyMeLordBottom feeders. Calling about a deceased friend (dead near 8 years) about a debt they presumably own. Since the estate has been closed for ~ 8 years there is no debt and no money to pay if there was.
They won't take my assurance that the party is dead and demand I provided a certified copy of the death certificate. I finally gave up and provided the address of the cemetery and the plot number. Gave them the phone number of the cemetery management.- Caller: General Revenue Corp
- Call type: Debt collector
- NotInDebt replies to COLLECTOR 1Scumbags? I would say YES!!! You're not even smart enough to turn the CAPS key off when you post a message!!!
- RudeCollectorsI would agree these so-called collection agencies are scumbags. And also to the people who are telling people to pay their bills or to live within their mean, they must not read that many of these collection agencies are calling the wrong people, or calling because they somehow got their info and calling about a friend or relative who supposedly owes them money. My complaint is that I've been paying off my Sallie Mae debt, yet these people keep calling me. I've gotten phone calls from multiple collection agencies about my Sallie Mae account which is up to date. Also, many of these "agencies" are obvious scams; these people have called my parents AND my grandmother. Never Sallie Mae, but random agencies who never give the name of their agency demand to know where I am and how to reach me. The other day, I finally answered one of the calls, and it was some extremely rude man, demanding all my info, including my SS number. I refused to give him my SS number and told him he was not going to get my info unless I knew who was calling and what for. The guy said his name was Greg, then said he was calling from a collections agency and that he gave me enough information, in fact too much. He then asked "Do you know understand, honey?" in such a sarcastic tone. I hung up. I don't owe any agency any "debt" besides Sallie Mae. And no proper agency would demand such personal information without first giving their info, etc. Many of these agencies are frauds, and it was obvious this one is. As is the 2 other that seem to call at all hours of the day and night.

- Bubba replies to COLLECTOR 1Where are you from? Around here, we use the capital letters only for the first letter of (some) words, and otherwise only to indicate screaming. You get nowhere screaming at people.
Additionally, grammar lessons are available at many institutes of higher (and lower) learning. - Notified the Federal Trade CommisionI notices during working hours this number calls when I log onto my computer. I am waiting to hear from the FTC as to what to do next. If everyone notified the FTC something can be done quicker. They are debt collectors not a Federal agency.
