I called this number, and it sounded legit, although I cannot confirm if it is.  I spoke to Mr Goodman, who said he worked in the collections department at Pentagon Federal Credit Union on Eisenhower Drive in Alexandria.  Is this a PFCU number or not?

Yes, this is a PFCU number. I am a PFCU customer with two accounts there.  They called me to let me know my payment was late (which it was).

and using a phone number on there site. If they actually called you, then they would be aware of the call.  This is the best way to ensure you don't give private information.

In general, you should always look up the bank, hospital, or the contact that was left on the recording to get the actual phone number listed for the institute.

to be safe, you can just give them your first and last name, then have them confirm something like your street number, then give them your address/last four of social etc.  the lady who I spoke to was a bit puzzled why I was so evasive with giving my social right away, but after a few back and forths we worked it out... and overall she was very pleasant.

You should not be calling persons to return call and provide SSN and Name when US is being affected by Identity Theft. This is just wrong and the number 800-451-7269 does NOT appear on Pentagon Credit Union web page.

This is a scam, it's not legit Rob.  This people call me about my two accounts, and forgot to ask my security questions, and my accounts are not late, I called PFed to ask and I was told my accounts are fine no lateness, and was advice to be carefully, gave them the number that called me and def. It's not there number.  They going to investigate this scamers.

I received a yellow envelope at my door saying "confidential" no street info or account info on it or inside. Inside was a note saying "urgent" and call this number with a provided number saying it was pentagon federal credit union.

I just called pen fed's direct line in their website to see if this was them or their number and let them know what's going on. Sure enough, it is NOT one of their numbers. I don't even have a penfed account either!! But hey, if you all want to get scammed, call that number and give them your info! Lol

This is not PenFed. I verified with them. I am not late on any of my accounts and they’ve never asked for my full social.

i received a call and left message to call 800 451 7269 for a personal matter.   i will not call i owe no money never heard of this place

Over my life time, I've heard a lot of misinformation calls or scams, etc. and this is a new one on me.  Pentagon Fed left a message on my machine saying someone listed me as an emergency contact and to return the call.  Nope, no way.  I don't know this Bank or the person they referred.  Glad I read your forum, thanks.
