If you’re behind in paying your bills, or a creditor’s records mistakenly make it appear that you are, a debt collector may be contacting you.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, enforces the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA), which prohibits debt collectors from using abusive, unfair, or deceptive practices to collect from you.
Under the FDCPA, a debt collector is someone who regularly collects debts owed to others. This includes collection agencies, lawyers who collect debts on a regular basis, and companies that buy delinquent debts and then try to collect them.
A debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8 in the morning or after 9 at night, unless you agree to it. And collectors may not contact you at work if they’re told (orally or in writing) that you’re not allowed to get calls there.

I also received a call from them.

My brother had a line with AT&T, under my name, but couldn't pay the bill. I only received ONE collection notice from them. Only a few days later, some black man calls my work place (I work the graveyard shift) during the day and harrasses my boss. My boss is a really sweet lady, but light a match on her and she will explode! Well the harraser (his extension is 2374) demanded to be transfered to the Human Resources Dept. and insisted that this was business related and not personal. My boss slammed the phone and hung up on him.  After that, he stopped calling! ^_^ After reading the comments here, I'm going to deal directly with AT&T instead.

I recieved a call from this company while trying to place a call on my mother's phone.  I know she has some outstanding bills so I do not usually answer her phone.  This time however I happened to try and place a call at the exact same time these people were calling.  I explained to them that I was waiting on a call from my OB-GYN due to some spotting (whilst pregnant, mind you).  This man..yep it was Jim Wilson called me a liar and to quit "playing games" with him and to put my mother on the phone.  I have never been so outraged with a collection company.  I asked him the name of his company and told him I was reporting him to the BBB and he refused to give me any sort of info.  The only reason I found out who they were was I recalled the number and reported the man.  And guess what?  Just like another poster said, they transferred me right to his extention, even though it was him I was calling to complain about!  Then I called again and asked to speak to a manager and guess who I got??   Yep..Ms. Davis...who screamed at me that because I was not the actual client (my mom was)..why the hell was I wasting her time?  She refused to listen to my complaint and then said "Well listen to how you sound...I would have told you off, too".  Then she read back my number off her caller ID and said she was going to report me for harrassment!!!! Can you believe it?  What a douche!

I been getting these calls for while now from the rude lady! I finally called back and gave her and two others a piece of mind before being transferred to a nice gentleman who took my number off the list. The calls finally stopped! :)

My Mom and dad recently got a Pre-Paid Cell for use on a trip.  They are getting calls all the time from this number.  My father is on Oxygen, and has suffered from strokes in the past.  Recently out of the hospital for anemia.  He very nearly passed out and fell while trying to answer a call from this number.  AND if it IS a bill collector ther are calling the WRONG NUMBER cause my parents do not have outstanding debt to anyone and recently got this number.  SO STOP BOTHERING MY PARENTS

In this economy, how do a rude company like Southwest Credit expect to collect a debt by being rude to customers? I too had Cingular for 8 years and never had a problem. My biggest mistake was I should have changed my service as soon as I heard ATT&T was taking over Cingular. I would have never gotten service with ATT&T.  All I ever heard about them is bad new. I won't buy any product that is made by ATT&T. My friends feel the same way. Why would ATT&T hire this company as their collection agency? Evidently they love the drama and grief this agency give to the customers.  How are you going to collect money from customers by threating and yelling at them? Southwest Credit company needs to trained their Reps how to address a customer when calling their homes. They are very very rude and yes they try to over talk you. I never seem a company so GHETTO in my life. Yes I will be writing letters as well. I too try settling this bill with ATT&T which was a mis understanding with one of their Rep who quoted me the wrong plan and after 4 days  my phone was cut off and I ended up with a 1400.00 bill. How crazy is this. ATT&T don't ever have to worry about getting any of my business or any of my immediate family because I wouldn't want anybody else to have to go through this un necessary stress over a bill.  People already have a lot to worry about without  this harrassment. I too will be reporting this Company to everybody I can think of. I am even wirting a letter to the President of the US. This mess needs to stop right here. ATT&T good ridden and I pray someone buy this out real soon or they go Bankrupt just for chosing this idiot collection agency they chosed. This has been a big headache, but no more as of today. I am overseas supporting the country and I don't deserve to having to waste my time dealing with this mess.

Ms. Davis did not try to listen as of June 2012 regarded a disputed charge from an apartment complex and tenant..

I attempted to inform her about the past due so call monies they(The rip off apartment complex) are attempted to get, she said, "You will pay it all." Later on, her voiced raised, my voiced raised-she hung up! I said take us to court cause  we filed paperwork proving we did the right thing before moving..we went to court informing the judge and the housing authorities what's went on.

She said,(Ms Davis) we will not be able to get another place until this particular debt is paid.  Hello Ms Davis, we moved, got us a nicer, most cost effective, beautiful place to stay, without Ms. Davis's attempted scare tactics.. We know our rights..
