- MB| 2 replieshad a call from this number on 3 Nov 2009 saying he was from the visa verification center he had my name address and phone number and asked me to confirm my card number. I would not give him my card number . He then said to prove he was genuine his name was Jack Russell (with a foreign accent) and that his security no. was cc134 and asked me to phone him back I did not do so. I then contacted my bank who knew nothing about this and said they would not ask me for my number and said it was probably a scam. I have reported it to the Consumer advice center who took details and asked me to report it if he rang again.
- David| 1 replyThis number is printed on the back of CIBC Visa cards.
It is unlikely that CIBC would call using this number, as it is less expensive for them to call direct.
I wouldn't trust anyone claiming to call from there, unless you subscribe to call display, and it agrees. Offer to call them back in that case.- Caller: Visa
- Clifford replies to DavidActually Caller ID information is very easy to fake, you should never rely on it. Simple NEVER provide information like that to someone who calls you and asks for it.
- William NobleI got a call today from this number. I live in Victoria BC. The call came in at 9 in the morning.
I live in the downtown area of Victoria. I am glad that I google searched this number first. I want to add this to a list of people who reported that number as egregious. - DarmstroGot a message left on answering machine to call back. Caller said he was from CIBC, it is the same number on back of CC. When I called back got recorded message re postal strike implications.
- RoyGot a call from this number yesterday, they claimed they were from Telus doing an iPhone promotion, and I was "specially selected"...I would feel even more special if they didn't try my wife's cell phone the night before. Total Scam, as Googling this number reveals it's a CIBC internal number (and it's the first hit, in fact) on the CIBC web site.
- Caller: Claimed "Telus"
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Keiththese scumbags just called me and offered to reduce my credit card rate to 6.9%. I said great. the moron I talked to gave me the company name, phone number, his name and extension...all is good but I don't have a credit card. I was specially selected because I make my payments on time and always more than minimum.. all good... I don't have a credit card. tomorrow morning CIBC is going to take one on the chin from me, for all of us....
The pin head I talked to gave this number and extension 272,,,his name is Douglas Miller...There will be coal ion his breakfast- Caller: card services

- PamThis is really strange to me because that phone number is the exact number on the back of my CIBC Visa card!!! So, how do people make it show up on the call display when they are calling from another number? That is scarier than spoofing email addresses. For my sanity, I just don't bother answering the phone anymore unless I recognize the number. IF something like this happened, I would LMBO at the caller... unless I was in a playful mood; in which case, I might play their game back at them as I did with these idiots who claimed to be calling from WINDOWS (not Microsoft) telling me that there was a critical error happening on my computer and he needed me to follow his instructions to fix it IMMEDIATELY before it destroyed both my computer AND the whole internet!!!!! LOL, I wonder if anyone fell for that. I sure hope not as I can only begin to imagine what they'd have naive people do. Sadly, I wasn't able to get very far into receiving my "instructions" because I wouldn't give him my Social Insurance Number. He hung up when I said that I might not know much about computers (a lie), but I did know not to give away that kind of information. However, there were either a slew of guys with this middle eastern accent AND similar voices or a couple of the same guys kept making the same calls repeatedly because, I was called dozens of times and they pretty much sounded the same. Finally, I got tired of them so one day I said, "Yes Detective, this IS the caller. Did I keep him on long enough?" Of course, he hung up before I completed my question, the chicken... LOL. One time I asked the guy how he could know what was happening on my computer and he said that it is always sending information to WINDOWS while it is running, and, I let him go on and on a while longer and then said that my computer was not even on. The jerk then tried to REALLY scare me by saying that the problem is MUCH worse than he imagined if it was sending signals while turned off... LOL. I let him ramble frantically for a minute and couldn't hold in my laughter any longer.... it just burst out of me and he said "This is no laughing matter ma'am!" I interrupted him, saying that I had a Mac. Did the same thing with a clearly different man, except I said that I didn't have a computer. Well, time to stop reminiscing and get something done around here. I would still love to comprehend how these morons can spoof email and phone numbers.
- sonny/dsCalled twice left no message.
- gregthey just called me today. i didn't answer
- SonjaCalled today... and gave them my credit card number but when they asked for the number on the back of my card I knew it was bs. They had my information but they told me they were calling about my Visa card... I don't have a visa I have only master cards. I asked them which one and they named off cibc, bmo, etc. I don't have any of those just a bmo master card. I hope that they don't use it... :( I thought it was legit.
- LindaThis guy is still going. Just gotta call this morning saying he was from Visa. I'm on Vancouver Island. Told him I didn't believe him and he laughed. Called my Visa company to verify and they confirmed they NEVER call. If there was fraudulant use of my card, it would be a recording.
- Caller: Claimed to be VISA
- KatieI got a call a few minutes ago offering to lower my credit card rate to below 4% FOR LIFE because I was such a good customer. I've heard of this scam before, so I kept him on the line for a while. Then I said no thanks. And he said, well, you're paying over 19% interest now. That sealed it, because my card is a low rate card anyway, and I never pay interest because 1. I haven't used the card in years and 2. I don't carry credit card balances, ever. So I told him I was on to him and he was a scammer and hung up.
- Donnaconnected to another number 855-420 3251Wherein they called and there was nobody on the other end. (checking to see if anyone home) within 5 mins this number calls giving me the line of "Since you have not missed a payment on your visa+mastercard in the past 6 months I qualify for lower interest for life!! This is such a surprise to me since I do not have either a Visa or a mastercard ( or as pronounced by a East Asian accented man a VisaMasterCard - like it was all one combined.)
My advise when these calls creep in, call block. I am.- Call type: Telemarketer
- amandathis number just called me at 2am! wtf?! i have 2 small children sleeping here.they never bothered saying anything cause the tone of my voice was already pretty ticked off when i answered cause i saw a 1800 number on the call display this late at night. called the number back to rip them a new one and its cibc?? of which i dont deal with. if it wasnt for this site letting me know its someone else then poor cibc wouldve heard sh*t from me in the morning. but now that i know i wont bother the poor reps there. dont these b*st*rds have anything else to do besides waking up a family at 2 am?! never give these people any info if they ask for it! they are not legit if they dont follow proper outbound guidelines for when to call customers!
