- Tired of thisI kept receiving one call daily for 4 days in a row. It always showed up on my caller I.d. as “Scam likely.” Each day it was a different voice and different name, and each day they left a voice mail, claiming to be a representative of Bank of America [henceforth, BoA], saying they were trying to reach a certain person (same name), and providing the same reference number. It sounded very official. So I called the official number for BoA (different from the number given). After speaking with 3 of their representatives, each in a different department (including Privacy Department and Fraud Department), none of them could trace this 800-496-9471 number as belonging to BoA. Also, a Fraud Dept. rep scanned my number that was being used to contact me, and—as I had thought—they don’t even have my number in their system!
Conclusion: Most likely a scam. Never answer calls from or return calls to this 800 number, and report them to the United States National Do Not Call registry at www.donotcall.gov- Caller: Claims to be Bank of America

- JimI received a letter which seemed to be on Bank of America letter head but the letter was only addressed to my co-signer and all mail normally sent to me has both our names on it. They were seeking personal info on my co-signer and I could call this 800 number or mail the personal info to a PO box in Plano, TX or on the furnished form. Very professional form and letter head. Watch out for this SCAM!
- tCaller ID was just the #. They left a voice mail, 3 times (so far), on 2 different #s associated with my BofA account and left a callback # just slightly different from the # they called from. Said they had an urgent matter and I should call back. I checked my on-line account and there were no messages. I agree... this is a scam.

- TomIts a Scam, they try and pull information out of you that they should already have if it was a legitimate call. They tried to get my birthday and SSN.

- NotBS| 5 repliesI too received a letter, thought it was a scam and ignored it. They wanted to confirm all personal information. After ignoring letter, a month later all of my BOA accounts were frozen. This also freezes any co-owners of accounts. Went to BOA and they said they could take information OR I could call 1-800-496-9471. After confirming personal information the accounts would be restored at midnight.

- Susan replies to NotBS| 1 replyWho are you? It seems that you are one of the members who try to scam
- JackReacher replies to SusanMost assuredly one of the scammers. It is unfortunate that they are so desperate to make a couple of pennies to pay for their drug habits that they come here in feeble attempts to convince people that they should call this number, that it is the "real deal" so to speak.
- Vic T replies to NotBS| 1 replyYes, this is a scam and you are likely part of the scam. I took the letter to my local Bank of America and they confirmed this is a scam. I'll give you credit though, the letter was very professional looking.
- B-Edwards replies to Vic TYes, NotBS was a shill for the scam. Not sure if this scam is run from the USA, it has the markings of one of the call centers in India. See the post above from JackReacher.

- CAI called 800 496-9471 gave the control number they left with me 15019859307. The Customer Service Rep Brenda said she could not find that control number and I had to verify my information she then immediately advised me the call was recorded and started asking for personal information. I advised her that she also was on a recorded line and was she alright with that. She advised me that I she was not my response was give me to a supervisor then because this line is recorded. She said that I needed to call her back from a non recorded line. I told her that I was handing the recording over to the Bank of America and the AG's office for further investigation. She slammed the phone down. This is a scam company pretending to be from Bank of America in Texas do not give any information advise them you are also recording the conversation
