It is a violation of an employee's privacy to provide any information regarding that employee, including whether or not they are even an employee, or were an employee without that employee's consent. - ild1227 replies to azIt is illegal for a debtors or their representatives to call a person's place of employment UNLESS they have a court order and pursuing garnishment. If you receive a court document showing a court date, make sure you show up, or the debtor will win by default! If a garnishment is being pursued, they can only collect a nominal amount (each state may be different, but I believe it is about 10% of your pay BEFORE taxes). If a company harrasses your employer, contact your state Attorney General's Office and report them. Don't waste your time with the Better Business Bureau. They have no legal power over stopping a creditor. I hope this helps!
