Well I got a call saying that I owe $1300 for a card that only had a balance of about 600. Well I tried to call them back and make arrangements to pay because I knew I did owe some money but not that much and theses people are just rude. They hung up on me when I asked "isnt it illegal for you to threaten wage garnishments", because he said they would garnish about %25 of my check before taxes. Well my sister is an accountant and told me not to worry about it because the small amount of money I owe isnt enough for them to take me to court.

Same deal, but I owe $2500 and they threatened until I asked when they were going to take me to court and they hung up on me.  A bunch of scamming thugs.

Don't believe the hype.

I received a call as well and they threatened to go to Human Resources and garnish my wages. I asked if they could prove they had previously contacted me and they stated they didn't need to they were a law firm. They called my coworkers as well. How can they do this? When I stated they were harassing me at work they stated "how are we harassing you?" Are they kidding?

Just got the same call been in...and Now I know they are scam artist

yeah going to call them tomorrow from a pay phone and already warned my friends and family not to worry if they get the call and also to record the conversation if able
if they say I have a credit card then they are full of **it no credit cards for me

I just checked www.calbar.ca.gov/state/calbar/calbar_home.jsp David Sean Dufek is a licensed attny. I got a call too and researched this. If you think it's a joke your fooling yourself. Just thought I would give you the heads up.

I received a call at 9pm with the same recording message. I called it right back because it went to voicemail. The person they said I had to talk with was only in 8am to 5pm. Then why in the H*LL did they call me at 9pm to wake my 17month old baby and expect me to call the next morning. SORRY no can do!!

Just so everyone is aware of collection practices it is legal to contact between the hours of 8am and 9 pm.  This is just a standard practice in any financial practice.  This is just providing information for any form of collection practice.  Medical, credit cards, mortgages, student loans etc.  The only information I do advise is always keep documentation of your calls and your communication with any transactions you do that will affect your credit.  This is for your protection but also documents our willingness to take care of whatever transactions you do that will affect your credit.

All of you are deadbeat debtors. When you borrow money you are going to pay interest, plain and simple. Read your card holder agreements. Pay your bills and you will receive no calls. Why not try that instead of making excuses and whining. I am sure you weren't making excuses when you were racking up the debt and using the cards to buy useless crap. Stop the BS and pay your debts. You can call us whatever you want but you dirtbags are the reason there are collectors. If you can't pay back don't borrow.

Remember it is those "Dirt Bags" that give collectors a job.  So you should be thanking them everyday for existing or you wouldn't have a job.

No matter what they owe, I don't think it's appropriate to use that language or tone with a customer or customer's client.  They are your client.

I recently got a call from "FirstSource Advantage, LLC" which I traced back to David Sean Dufec Law Offices. I have a phone number that attracts all sorts of collector agencies--I can think of eight (!) different names asked for (including one since I got this number 6 years ago) with so many different collectors I can't even estimate a count. I took to looking these up when one started using my name in association with yet another name--and stated my address in the message. The first time involved a complaint with a number with the state's ZIP initials; so I called back to find out, who's this person, how did I get sucked into this, and show me the complaint. Never got a call back. So far I've seen nothing to even hint legitimacy or reputable about this so-called agency. Two things to note, the first is that most of the forums complaining about this toll-free number have '2007' dates, and the other is that the debtor lists they buy (see.budhibbs.com on practices of sleazy debt collector agencies) are being outsourced to call centers in India where they really have no clue on what any of this is about. I got another number as incoming, but this is the number that on my voicemail to call back.

Both of you, "ur so funny" and "David p", need to calm down. These people didn't necesarily not read their agreements carefully, or not pay the amounts they owe on time! Collections agencies have always done shady things to get what they want! They're just plain greedy!
And for the "ur so funny"... does the word hypocrisy mean anything to you? David had already spelled cards once and clearly knew how to spell, so it was probably a typing error. Also, if you are going the freak on someone to check his spelling, maybe you should check your spelling of "You're" in your name. I'm fairly certain its not "Ur". Oh, and I'm fairly sure using caps like that isn't going to get your point across any clearer than normal typing - unless your point was "I'm a moron and only feel better if I'm putting others down and correcting them."

Some collection agencies do fabricate or blow things out of proportion to scare their customers who didn't necesarily do anything wrong! Often lawyers know that they can infer things or threaten things that they cant actually follow through with, but if they can get you to pay the person you owe when you dont need to, or even pay them more, they'll do it. Its how they make money. Lawyers work to find loopholes in laws and more often than not, are just there to confuse you into doing what the company they work for wants. Don't EVER agree to anything that seems at all fishy to you without consulting a lawyer on your side or a friend/family member who is knowledgeable.
When I as first learning how to drive, I backed into a parking lot pole that had tons of dents in it and a ton of wires puring out, ripped and just in terrible and dangerous shape. I only knicked it thankfully, very little damage done, mostly to the paint. A day later, my dad got a call from the owner of the paring lot that we damaged the pole completely and that we had to replace it. If we didn't he would sue. Claimed he had a lawyer and the police had already sen the damage we caused. I was fairly freaked out, but my dad wasn't. He called his sister, who used to work for the police, and she just told him that the net time the guy calls, to say my dad's lawyer wants a copy of the police report. My dad did and the guy said he'd get it - never called back. Now of course there was no lawyer involved, but what if it had been someone else, someone easier to push around? The guy was obviously doing something illegal to get our number - the police would've never given that to him. But what is someone else didn't realize and never cross-checked with someone more knowledgable?

I got a call from them (David Dufek) at work yesterday. I do owe money but about 8 months ago turned my debt over to a company named New Beginnings to arrange settlement.  They have been doing a great job and my bills are being paid except for one bank card that refuses to work with us.  Dufek called on their behalf even after my wife explained to him that he needed to talk to our account manager at New Beginnings.  Dufek is threatening a law suit if we don't pay him and I cannot afford for my employer to know of my problems.  This could cause me to lose my job.  I am not trying to avoid paying my bills just trying to get a handle on them.

I recieved a call from 'an attorny's office'.  They asked me if I knew a certain person. I immediatly asked why. They said it was important for them to contact him. I told them I did not know the person. He told me that I was lying becouse if I did not know him then why would I be asking so many questions. I became upset and asked him if he even knew who it was that he had called. I told him that if it was that important he should contact the authorities.  Needless to say the call ended quickly. I really do not know the person and still wonder how he got my number.

I came home to a voice message left saying this is an important call and not a telemarketer.  I need to call 800-600-2610 or else. No specifics, no call back. No one threatens me without an explanation pertaining to the situation.

This David Dufek is a slave driver and [***] to employees --if you think they treat debtors bad they overwork employees and break labor laws. No overtime, no benefits and paranoid managers there.

Call Labor Board-they have mold in office and treat employees like crap-no overtime and low wages-Dufek makes female employees cry too..Collect America is a toilet and sweat shop all employees rebel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
