I have not received a phone call but I did get a letter in the mail.  I look after the accounting books for my employer and this letter was addressed to the company.  This letter does not state their company name and indicates that it is a Default and Recovery Division.  There is no signature on the letter and it states;" YOU MAY PAY THIS ACCOUNT BY CERTIFIED CHEQUE, MONEY ORDER, VISA, MASTERCARD OR WESTERN UNION VIA QUICK COLLECTION SERVICES".  There is a side note that indicates that my credit card statement will indicate payments made to Salma Sheikn, in trust.

Sorry but everything about this screams scam to me.

Company has called me 3 days in a row for someone I do not know, nor have ever heard of before.  3 days in a row I have told them this and asked them to remove me from their list and yet ... they keep calling.  So your whole "If its the wrong number simply answer or return their call and tell them, by law they HAVE to remove it." is bull!  If it IS the law, they sure as hell aren't following it.

I just got a new number and that what you get with a new number

I got a call from same number asking about a name close to our family name...my husband rushed to say it is the wrong number and hung up. Then I thought why don't I call them back to see if they meant to ask about one of us but misspelled it. The guy who answered the phone had a weird voice ... I asked what kind of company they are and he said abruptly they are a financial company. He searched for my number and promised to remove it from their data base cause they were looking for another person. And when I asked what is the name of the company exactly, he was upset and said he cannot give out more info... he sounded so secretive like he is with a spy agency or something.

I cant wait to smother you while you sleep.

Totally scam, they have no idea who they are looking for.

I have received many calls from this number and I tend to ignore as the first time I did answer they asked for someone who I was not I politely told them they must have wrong number- recently they started leaving me messages but the one message that stood out to me as it was completely dofferrnt from the rest  was when this gentleman came on phone his tone was very serious but monotone- sayin several attempts have been made in order to contact me (didn't  say a name this time) and he said his name was john cArlo  Augustino didn't tell me where he was calling from just said he could be reached at 1800 809 5850 and he hopes to hear back from me shortly!! But what was strange was after he ended with thank you it sounded like YES THAT RECORDING OF THE MANS VOICE WAS STOPPED AND THEN I GUESS THATS WHEN THE SCAMMERS USUALLY WOULD HANG UP NOT THIS TIME MUSTA BEEN NEWBIES!! Bc all of a sudden I heard 2 women speaking in an unknown language obviously didn't inderstand anything they said this went on for about 4 mins after and then just by the tone in the words being spoken it sounded like one lady said u hung up right? And the others lady sat quiet for a moment and then it was like she responded with umm yea I think and then all of a sudden the message was over as she realized she hadn't hung up!! They are obviously scammers don't give any info nor eve me name

Obviously you have never had anything catastrophic happen to you. I had to file bankruptcy due to a major car accident which wasn't my fault and the other party was uninsured. I'm now on SSD and when my partner lost his job when the economy tanked we were left in the wind.  We had to subsist on my SSD and my credit tanked again as there wasn't enough money to go around. For most of my life I had perfect credit. I could walk into any car dealership and drive out in a new car on my signature alone. Now I know how the other half of the world lives. Slowly but surely I am rebuilding my credit. Just bought new tires for my car and drove away on my signature alone and let me tell you it was a hell of a feeling to get my good name and credit back. But I will never again judge others based on their credit situation because I don't know all of the details and their situation.

I do not have any debt, never have. I've had the same phone number for years so I don't know where they got it or the idea that I owed someone something. Get called by them all the time. They can call all they like but I'm not going to answer. Not my problem.

They called, left me a message that got cut off, and I called back. They said they are trying to send out insurance quotes. Nothing about a collection agency.

oh please people, get a panasonic phone and just block their numbers, end of story,  the new phones can now block up to 500 numbers and you don't even know they called.

These F***ing A**holes should stop calling me as I have already told them that I'm the wrong person to call and I dont own the number they have on the system. Also, I don't even have an American Express which they are calling about.

Looking for a neighbour. How strange they call me. Probably thought I would have their number.,

They left a message and a call back number (1-800-809-5850 ext 3834).  They were looking for my dad and called me, left me a file number. When I called back they would not tell me what they were, i.e. what business they were in until I gave them the file number, I told them I was not giving them any information until they told me what exactly their business was.  It was a stalemate.  I expect that they are probably a collection agency of some sort and that my dad missed a bill of some kind (he just moved out of his house and his mail routing has been suspect); I probably would have tried to help them out if they would have just told me who they were.
