Just go the call: his number showed up on my cell phone 716-206-3218 but a message said
it was the IRS and to call 1-800-8297650. called the 1800 number and immediately the recording wants my SS# not the case number it left for me to give. SCREW YOU PEOPLE

I heard a background voice when I called this number talking about impeaching Obama. Seems like a fraud based upon that. The one who answered took supposed case number left on my voice mail. They could not tell me my name from the case number. Wanted my SSN, that is not going to happen on the phone. If this is legit, send me a letter.

I received a phone message asking me to call  800-829-7650 and to reference a case number..  I know I'm good with my taxes and never have had issues.  So I call and I'm on hold for about 2 min.  Then I speak with a ghetto lady who wants my social security # and home address and asks me my name.  I said you verify to me who you are and what this is about.  I'm calling you back referencing this case#.  She states she will not give me information if she cannot have my information.  I said fine, I'll wait for a notification in the mail.  She says there was something mailed out and must not have responded so now your receiving this call.  I said well I guess I'll never know what your calling about if you can't tell me what this is about.  She said have a good day ma'am and hung up on me.

I had to look this up on the internet and called my local IRS.  Its definitely a scam!!

I checked my home messages and that same message was left  saying this is irs call today by closing ect,, it was the 7650 # but it was after the business hours.  I could not return the call.   I webbed searched ...I  have been stressed but as I read now I am not alone and tomorrow is another day.  Thanks for the info  .Its makes for a better nights sleep knowing Im not alone. I will check tomorrow on the 1040 number..the business hours for the IRS on that # are 7 to 7..the hours for the # left on my machine were 8 to 8???.. I did block my phone # to ck the info on the 1040  If I feel un easy I will wait for the mail.  thanks again for the imput ..goood night.

..I never returned call ..I decided to wait for letter from mail..My sister is a mail carrier ..she states the IRS will contact you by mail forsure..the usually do certified after attempting a few times..I feel I am good with all..so I will wait and see..The people that run scams  will end up where they belong eventually.

I got message to call by EOD with a case number. It could be for anyone of several family members, it didn't say. No one knows of any IRS problems or has had a letter. I called 1-800-TAX-1040 and after punching in (0) I eventually got help though not a menu option. I was informed it is a legitimate IRS number and transferred over. After waiting on the phone for 25 minutes, I hung up. They can send a letter to the party they want to contact. Obama stole my secrets and sent my aerospace job to China nearly 4 yrs ago. I only wish I owed taxes.

IRS form 668-A-(c) "Notice of Levy" has printed on it Telephone Number of IRS Office :TOLL FREE 1-800-829-7650. This is a legitimate inwardbound 800 number for client/taxpayers to a legit government switchboard. HOWEVER I do not know if any legitimate outbound calls show it to attempt to get return calls I caution giving info as someone may beusing it to appear legit for a physhing trip.  I would return call from a DIFFERENT PHONE if I Received a call. And if you did not know, anytime you call a 800 type toll-free exchange your caller I.D. is overridden...i.e. it is not blocked and the telemarketer or govt agency CAN acquire the number you are calling FROM.

You may not want to assume this is a scam. I got a call but instead of calling the number they left on the voicemail I called the main number for the IRS (1-800-829-1040) and went through their system to talk to a person. They do ask for ALOT of personal information but IT WAS THE IRS, they knew all my prior years transactions. They did want to talk to me and ignoring the call would have been costly for me. So call the main number at the IRS and see if they wanted to talk to you or as some people have said, go to the local IRS office. But you probably shouldn't ignore the call entirely.

I got a call and was asked to call on this 18008297650 number and was provided a file number reference. I called the number and it was IRS. This number appears legit as it appears on the www.irs.gov webpage. Anyway I spoke to the IRS rep who gave me his ID number. He asked me why I had called and I told him about the call I received and the file number provided to me.

He said we don't make calls and provide reference numbers. So unless you have specific issue you want to discuss there is nothing I can do. Well I said I thought I was asked to call by "IRS" and if they say they don't call then I take their word.
