got a call did not answer not sure who this is

I got a call from this number on my cell phone.  ID said unknown caller.  I dialed the number from my land line and a recorded voice came and said "hold for a representative," I hung up immediately figuring it was some type of scam.  i just entered this number in the reverse phone search area and it says the number of not valid.

The number that came back as invalid was 1-800-957-8394 and that it is the number on my cell phone ID.  .

I get calls from that 800-957-8394 a lot for my daughter. driving me nuts. now they say when i tell them this is the only #. well, how do you get ahold of her in an emergency? what number do you call her on when's there's an emergency.. gees. so are you guys saying she shouldn't even pay them cuz it's bought from somewhere else for $10 or so..they are nosy. wake me up by 8:30am when i am sleeping in. sometimes 3 times in a row they call if you don't answer. will her credit be bad anyhow even if she paid them?

They buy debts and then robo-call to anybody with the same last name who lives in the general vicinity where the original debtor lived.  If enough people contact the NY State Attorney General and complain, they will be fined
