Yes, it is MADD solicitating, however it is via a service -- "Dial America" is the firm -- which that absolutely should be a violation of the do not call registry.  I was able to call them directly and have my number removed, but , again, it is illegal in the 1st place, and I shouldn't have to waste my time.  How do we go after these violators?

You have to file a complaint with your attorney general.  I think you can also file a complaint on the same website you signed up for the registry.

I'm on a do not call list, too, and I get these kinds of calls day after day.  It's disgusting.

This number called yesterday on 6.26.2012 at 9:31 am and again this morning at 9:38 am.  As several other people on this page have noted, I too am on FTC do-not-call list.  I have reason to believe that these are robo-calls from India or somewhere outside the US calling through a gateway of some kind and this is how they're getting away with it.  If they're not calling from the US they do not have to abide by US laws.

I DO AGREE there needs to be something more done, though.

Non profit orgs are exempt from DNC law

non-profit organizations and politicians are exempt from the do not call list.

These calls come from Dial America on behalf of non-profit firms they raise money for.  Because they are calling on behalf of the non-profit, the national Do Not Call list does not apply (this exemption exists for traditional non-profits as well as calls on behalf of political campaigns).  It makes no difference that they are calling through a firm.  The reality is that the cost of calling members and donors is too high for most non-profits and they use a firm who calls on behalf of a number of non-profits.  They are legitimate, working for good causes, and employ lots of people.  They do, however, have to abide by your request to be placed on their own Do Not Call list.  This should the be applied to the firm (Dial America) as well as the non-profit in case they change to another firm.  If they continue to call you after that point, you should report them to the Attorney General.  The easiest thing to do is to answer when they call and ask to be placed on the Do Not Call list.  Do not allow to go to voicemail or answering machine.  You will just continue to get called.

I called MADD at 877.275.6233. I asked if the 800 number was their number and said it an organization that raises money for them by selling magazine subscriptions. I asked to have my number taken off their list, and the person who I talked to said she would have my number removed from the list. So, we'll see if this happens.

Also got a call from 800-981-2591 stating they were from MADD and they were selling magazines. They didn't ask for any bank acct numbers or credit card number, and said a bill for the magazine subscription would come in the mail. Since this bill can be paid via money order, I see no harm, and all the past posts I read were helpful. After speaking with her I dialed the number back and they did identify themselves as MADD. I do get several 800 calls throughout the day which I don't answer, but this one caught me off guard.

They said I could pay via money order but when the bill came.....they asked for a check. I am not sending a check so I guess they can consider my order canceled.

This call is from Mothers Against Drunk Driving.  If you call 1-800-981-5526, Mon-Fri 8am - 11pm or Sat 10am- 6pm, you can talk to a "live" person and have your number removed from their call list.  It may take a few days, which is not unreasonable in this database world.  I called and spoke to a very respectful, pleasant representative.  Remember, you don't have to answer the call.  Or you can answer and immediately hang up without speaking until your number is removed.  Unwanted calls are annoying, but you have to put it into perspective.  I used to just ignore the calls or answer and hang up immediately.  However, I have found that if I answer, or don't answer and call back and ask to be removed, I am.  Instead of increasing, the calls greatly lessen.  Of course, I ask in a pleasant civilized fashion and am treated in kind.  If you do answer, you will get silence for a few seconds until the calling machine connects you to a person.

I just told them I was a current member of "Mothers WHO Drink". (for the record I do NOT drive when drinking!) They've never called back.

Got a call with no message left AS USUAL.  Annoying idiots.  That's why I bought a call blocker ;)
